The app needs to be updated to 64bit. It's crazy that it hasn't been updated in 3 years.
Because this app is not 64 bit it could cause slowness on your iPhone/iPad. There really is no reason to have not updated the app yet. That being said as has been said in other reviews, the implementation is flakey. Sometimes the printer appears.. sometimes it doesn't. Typically if I reboot the xPrintServer it will then typically appear but not always.
And at times looses it self and has to be rebooted. Not at all reliable.
This app is designed to work with the xprintserver hardware that you have plugged into you LAN. That hardware acts as an iOS capable printer and bridges the iOS print interface to you LAN connected printer. There is simple, implementation is flakey. In my experience with a Xerox color laser postscript printer on my LAN is that the xprintserver has frequent problems seeing the printer on the network( even though I can contact the printers direct web interface just fine from my phone) OR the phone cannot see the xprintserver ( even though I have network connectivity). Something is dropping/loosing/failing to talk and the end effect is that I might as well not have this device. It isn't reliable as a solution. I can print from my computer 100% of the time while xprintserver server works for 39% of the time for reasons I cannot figure out. Having to reboot all of my network gear and printer without knowing what might fix the issue is not a solution. I just had my Xerox print its configure page via safari but xprintserver cannot see the printer is there.
This app is awesome. It allows you to search networks for iOS friendly printers.....
While the app is useful, it highlights my concern of all apps, that they aren't maintained. In this case, this app is still using a pre-iOS 7 theme.
You have to use this app to upgrade the print server firmware to work with iOS 7. But the app doesn't work. It won't find my print server even though I can print from my iPad.
This app lets you administer a Lantronix print server which turns regular printers into AirPrint capable printers. This app works great, even allowing you to update the server firmware without a desktop computer! Update server firmware with your iphone-- that's a first. Try the server, try this app, you'll like them both.
If you want to print from an iPad or iPhone, it doesn't get much easier than this! Note: this app requires an xPrintServer; it won't work without it.
