Yam Air Reviews

It’s fine, could use some work though

This app is probably one of the best duet alternatives ever. I downloaded this version because 1. The free version has a cap of 7 minutes every time you connect so you have to reconnect. 2. The wired (non-free/regular) version is 8 dollars and the air version is only 4 dollars. I thought this was going to be great, and it was, but it’s very laggy, and sometimes it bugs out.. for example: 1: sometimes the screen goes black and it just shows and tracks the movements of the Mac cursor. To get it to work again, I have to close the app and open it again. 2: It’s just laggy in general. I don’t know if it is a problem with my Mac, or if there is something the devs can fix. That’s my whole review on this app. If the devs of this app see this, please try to fix the bugs I am having, that would be great!

Solved all the issues of Sidecar

If you haven’t already tried Sidecar, give it a try before buying this app since it’s free functionality built into may Macs/iPads. However, if you’re like me and experiencing constant freezing with Sidecar, Yam is god-sent. It works flawlessly and adds touchscreen functionality (beautiful). I also considered Duet, but ultimately went with Yam since it’s a one-time fee versus subscription. So pleased!!

Works

Using it on my old Mac Mini/Mojave (2010) delivers a poor performance with quite some lag … Using it on my MacBookpro (2016) / Big Sur works fine and without any delay or lag. As you can use your fingers on the iPad to move stuff, guess a virtual keyboard would be nice?

Doesn’t work!

I love it!!! It is really easy to use, and helps me with my school work. I didn’t have to buy a monitor since I found this, and used my drawing tablet. It is a little laggy, but that’s because this is the cheaper air version which is GOING to be laggy, and this one really does a good job despite that. If you really need one without lag of any kind then just spend the extra 3 bucks on the wired version and it’ll be perfect for you.

Did not work

The application did not work for my computer. I will be contacting the company for a refund.

yo this is amazing

The reviews here looked nice but I googled around a bit and wasn't finding quite as many users as I'd like to feel confident. So it felt like a swing in the dark a bit. I was pleasantly surprised when it immediately worked amazingly. You see some small lag when scrolling. A video on streamable worked shockingly well. The touch gestures alone are amazing. I often hesitate to try and work in a coffeeshop or something if I'm working on a project that benefits from two screens. This is a life-changer.

This app is Amazing - Solved so many issues for me

Since I don’t have sidecar on my 2012 Mac mini and I didn’t want to force the sidecar script due to concerns I read online. I needed a creative solution to solve my problem. After reading recent reviews on other apps I wanted something stable. Wow, this app is it!!!!!!!! I have a small closet that I converted into a soundproof recording booth. I bought this app to wirelessly connect to my iPad Pro so I could record from the room without being in the garage. This app is amazing. No lag and worked better than when I was using the AirPlay display on the smart TV. Saved me A lot of money instead of buying another smart TV just to use when I was recording. The only thing I noticed was the app would lose connection when I accidentally turned the iPad screen. Simple fix was to lock the screen. Installation was simple BTW. After downloading the desktop app and giving it permission I was up and running. Literally took all of three minutes. Works just as well as some of the other wired screen extending apps. You won’t be disappointed. Additionally it helped me have a second mixing screen for Ableton when working on my 13” MacBook Pro as well.

Does what others claim

It just works. I've had absolutely no problems using this as a second monitor for my Mac book Air 11". No lag, no drama. It's cheaper and more reliable than AirDisplay. Further, it delivers the on-screen keyboard that stopped working on AirDisplay. What more could I say? ---- Update November 2020: Still the best!
