Constance, Billie and Sergeant Block are back in this follow-up to the award-winning Couch to 5K® training app (2012 Appy Award for best Healthcare & Fitness app). Designed to continue the training experience for people who finish the Couch to 5K plan, or for those who are already 5K-ready, this app uses motivating virtual coaches to get you ready to run a 10K (6.2-mile) race in 9 weeks.
Spend just 25 to 70 minutes, three times a week, for nine weeks, and you’ll be 10K-ready!
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
The 5K to 10K coach you select talks to you during your workouts. To save your battery, 5K to 10K sends audio notifications when your screen is locked or another app is in use.
To be sure you hear the coach during your workout, please do the following:
• Turn on Notifications permissions
• Turn on the hardware ring/silent switch (no red showing)
• Turn your ringer volume up
• Turn off Do Not Disturb (swipe up for Control Panel and the moon button should not be white)
• Within the app, in Settings > Workout Options, be sure the Trainer Volume is up
Without granting notification permissions, during a workout you can click the lock icon at the top left to keep the app active and still hear the coach.

Needs voice commands

I like the app for the over all use, but couch to 5k is much better for over all feel. This app doesn’t tell you what you should be doing inside of the run. Let’s say you’re supposed to do a 10 min jog then a 7 min tempo run, but then a 10 min jog. It will tell you to start your first jog, but a voice won’t tell you to do the tempo or the second jog, it sends me a notification. But no actual voice tells me what to do.

Prettier but not as good as C25k

At first the 5k to 10k app looks nicer, in practice it's inferior to C25k. There are no voice prompts mid run, so I have to look at my watch. There is no "Week <x> Day <y>" screens to share, just a nondescript "Finished" screen. That said the workouts are great.

Why is there no 5k to 10k app for Apple Watch???

Too finicky to be useful

The app requires you to have your phone with the ringer on, screen permanently unlocked and only works with Apple Music. My phone has been on silent since 2012, and if I run with my screen unlocked, I’m begging for issues (workout paused, skips ahead, skips back, etc). I don’t care about not being able to use other music apps as I use Apple Music but I care very much about having to use it within the app which means I can only listen to my playlists and in the order I put them together, not shuffled. The workouts are good and offer a great variety, but if I have to follow all these rules to get to them (and then they might be skipped around) what’s the point? I’m not bothering with contacting support. I just use Garmin Connect to build workouts lifted directly from the app. At least then I know I won’t have any issues.

Good running program outdated app

Like many here I came through the brilliant Couch to 5K. The 5K to 10K app however, needs updating to have feature parity. The app resolution and display area is not optimized for modern iPhones.

Bugs

The Couch to 5K program was great. This one has a lot of bugs in it. Starting with acing to watch an ad when you want to use it. I’d rather just purchase it with no ads. Second when you start a run you never know which one you will get. Today I tried to start Week 2, day 2. But it gave me “Open Run”. Third it doesn’t prompt you when you are suppose to change cycles. Just to name a few

This version is terrible which is disappointing because i loved the coach to 5k. It doesn’t record your distance like the other one did

Great app

This is such a great app. I use it when I’ve been slacking on my running to get back up to speed and distance. Just wish they had a 10K to 13.1k app

Love this program!

I’ve used the couch to 5k app to get back running after pregnancy and injuries, and now I’m using it to build up endurance for longer distances. I love that it eases the runner into safe progression. I would like to see: More integration with treadmill. When I manually add my distance it gives me a pop up that my stats are erased. This is ok as I track stats with other apps. More coaching during the run. For instance, I was distracted at the beginning of one of my runs and missed the instruction for what a tempo run is. As someone who didn’t do track in high school and basically just goes out and runs I don’t know what some terms are. I would have liked that instruction in my ear as I ran. Regardless, I feel like this is a safe progression that will keep me from being injured by overdoing it! I have recommended the couch to 5k to new runners and I’d recommend this one too!!
