Tried to log on today and the app is asking me to update but when I try to update nothing loads up.

Logged back in for the first time in a long time, it’s asked me to complete a security update but every time I try to do it the update fails. Won’t let me use the app without updating.

The app keeps asking me to download a security update then it gets stuck in a loop and the only option I have is to log out. I can’t make online payments until this issue is resolved. I un-installed the app and downloaded it again. Same issue.

This app is terrible. If there was a zero star button, I’d select it. Ever since 2-step authentication was introduced, it hasn’t worked. I was shut out three times in Brazil while codes were sent to my home address. The codes worked for five minutes each time then the dreaded ‘authentication failed’ message appeared. I was abroad so text messages wouldn’t work. When I got home I got in using codes sent by text. Again this got me in for about five minutes or until I tried to send money. The same message always appears. Tried this twenty times over weeks to no avail. Finally decided to switch banks and AIB halted the switch. Couldn’t even let me leave without a hassle! I’ve been banking with First Trust (AIB) for my whole adult life. Even before the app issue they would constantly block my cards. They don’t inform you on the app. (Like I said, the app was poor before and now unusable.) No emails either. Only phone calls. It’s like they’ve never heard of people travelling outside of the country before. So if you’re travelling and can’t be contacted by phone, they simply block your card on the slightest of provocations (half the time they can’t tell you why it was blocked). This means if you try to use it in ATM it gets eaten. This has happened to me at least 6 times, probably closer to 10 over the years and it’s not fun. AIB have closed my local branch too so there’s absolutely no advantage to banking with them now. Why bank with a bank that can’t get simple technology right? Teething problems, ok. But this problem hasn’t been resolved for what, a year? More? Ridiculous. Anyway, I’m done. Wrote this essay in the hopes it saves some poor soul! Stay away, especially if you travel.

Can’t use this app anymore. Looking at the reviews, it’s obviously a problem they have had for some time. Seems they don’t want to fix it. As I’m unable to access my money easily I will have to move accounts.

For the last few weeks, each time I attempt to make a transfer to another UK personal account, the app freezes and closes as soon as I enter the last digit of the account number! Bit of a hassle having to log on to the PC every time I need to make a one-off small transfer
