American MahJong Practice

Ok, I downloaded the app and than I immediately need to pay? Can do anything with this app. No trial mode or lite version? How would I know if this is the app I need? Sorry, that’s a no go for me.

I don’t want to see ‘Do you want a Challenge Hand’ pop-up every time I open the app. I’m not interested in that feature and should be able to turn it off in Settings but can’t find the option for that

Great app for beginners. Helps you see the hands you can build. Great for the non analytical mind. Helps memory also

This is an excellent way for a new player to practice American Mah Jongg. I’m okay a few games daily and it’s actually getting easier to recognize different plays.

(Updated review) From my original review, "When you declare a Mah Jong, you can't really review the other players' hands, you only see what they racked. Also, the purported hands you can go for are not limited by the tiles already discarded. The latter is a nit, as you can see for yourself which tiles were discarded but it is still misleading. " The developer's response to the former of these last two points were that in real life you wouldn't be able to see the player's tiles and see their strategy. Well, this isn't real life, and the name of this app contains "Practice" which implies to me that you should be able to analyze what real players *might* be thinking, as we do in practice games when players are brand new. If you are truly trying to teach someone you are not worried about "exposing your strategy". If the game didn't want to give this level of help, then it should also not tell players what hands are available to them or give them any help at all. Let them think for themselves! Actually, this would be a great option in any case-- a no-help option that requires them to have their own card and figure things out for themselves as in a real game. In my initial review I was totally wrong about picking up a pair with a joker-- I am a beginner and was thinking of picking up a pair for Mah Jong with the tile in the pair itself. My rating remains the same.

Love this for familiarizing myself with the card!! I prefer to turn off the suggestions and figure out the plan myself so I’m glad that is an option

I recently added American Mahjong Practice to keep up on my knowledge of the different hands in case some of my neighbors invite me to join them.

I enjoy the game and play it frequently. My one complaint is that you could not undo a discard if you accidentally discarded a tile. It appears that has been corrected in new version of app. Can you update previously purchased game or do you have to delete and re-purchase to get latest version?

I have had literally one lesson so I don’t know much about the game. This has been a great app to familiarize myself with the game, and choosing lines to play. The developer has videos online that are really helpful. I also emailed a question and he was very patient and thorough in his replies. Read all pop ups completely before dismissing, they have important info. Now that I’ve figured the app out I can’t stop playing!

Fairly new to the game. Using this practice App has unfrozen my pattern of always wanting to stick to the Consecutive Runs. It has helped me become more aware of other play choices.
