You can select the word in alphabetical order (English meanings) by clicking “select” in the menu bar. Basic everyday Teochew words!
There are no retroflex consonants in the Teochew language, like sh, tch. The southern Chinese dialects (Cantonese, Hokkien, Wu, Hakka) all don’t have these consonants. But they have a very plentiful and complex vowel system.
Over 30 million people speak Teochew dialect. It is primarily spoken at home or between close friends. They speak the Common Chinese (Mandarin) when at school or doing business.

潮語又稱潮州話，也稱潮汕話，是閩南話的一個支系，也是現今中國最古遠、最特殊的方言之一。流行於粵東地區的閩方言，過去稱為“潮州話”，現在一般稱做“潮汕方言”，簡稱為“潮語”。潮州話始於唐、宋年間，並在明末清初時期形成自己獨立的語言體系。 9世紀約唐代開始至15世紀期間，為了逃避戰亂，一些福建漢人往海邊遷徙，到達廣東潮州一帶。
