See the infosphere!

Beschreibung

The infosphere, Visualized.
Every time we use our phones, tablets or laptops we are entering an invisible world of wireless digital signals. It is a world that we cannot see but that is literally all around us.
The Architecture of Radio is a 360 degree data visualization of what this world might look like. It shows the cell towers, GPS satellites and Wi-Fi routers around you that allow us to live our digital lives.
New: support for Iphone X, XR, XS and XS Max Screens
New: Cardboard support!
Immerse yourself in the Infosphere in Virtual Reality using a cardboard or compatible headset*
*Carboard support only for iPhone. iPhone 6s or newer recommended for best performance.
Why should I use this app?
Out of curiosity! We are increasingly dependent on a global ecosystem of digital signals. We use them for so many things, yet we cannot see them. We can see the roads we use to travel, the buildings we live in, but not the infrastructure that is changing the world. How can we understand this world without understanding how it works?
The purpose of this app is to make the invisible visible so we can look at it, think about it and discuss it.
Why Should I not use this app?
This app is not a measurement tool. It’s purpose is to inspire, to see the world through a different lens. The app is based on real world data and gives you a pretty good idea of the density of digital signals around you, but it won’t tell you where to move the couch to get a better WIFI signal.
So how does it work?
The Architecture of Radio is a data visualization, based on global open datasets of cell tower, Wi-Fi and satellite locations. Based on your GPS location the app shows a 360 degree visualization of signals around you. The dataset includes almost 7 million cell towers, 19 million Wi-Fi routers and hundreds of satellites.
Is this really what radio signals look like?
We can’t see radio with our eyes. The waves that we use for our cell phones and Wi-Fi are way outside the spectrum of visible light. In order to “see” radio, it has to be interpreted or translated into an image that we can see. There are many ways to do that but it will always be an interpretation.
The Architecture of Radio is an impression of the infosphere, a way of seeing it.

Strikingly good looking app to start with. The information is definitely not accurate at all "unfortunately." I have used this app for many weeks over 1000 miles of travels. Standing right next to mobile towers belonging to my service provider, points in other direction! Driving past towers, doesn't connect or traverse towers. Cannot for the life of me spot a satellite, no big deal. But the cell info has proved to me to be totally inaccurate, was initially excited re this app, but really was a waste of money, oh well! Lesson learned. Easier to used the free "field test mode" on your phone to check cell strength.

Love the app, however needs iPhone X Support

Love this app. But I would love it to fill the screen of my iPhone X. Is this coming?

Worked, now doesn't...

Before the upgrade it worked well on iPad mini, after upgrade only gets a blue screen.

Nice looking display, but... - the data is not real - it is based on a database of transmitters, so is not live (they don't claim that is live but if it is not then what is the point). - it seems to get direction screwed up. No other app I have gets directions screwed up. - IPhone 6S runs red hot.

Interesting and inspiring

This app provides an insightful display on a plane of view that can we rely on so heavily as of recently. It is very interesting looking out in the world at numerous navigation, communication and observation sources and it also notifies you on how far away they are. Worth the 4.99

Awesome

I normally don't write reviews but this is a really good app that shows you all signals around you. Only one issue. Need to be able to turn off the sound because I have lots of signals around me and the sound is just annoying. No way to turn off the sound.

Awesome AR visualisation tool!

This is a great app to show the signal soup were all exposed to on a daily basis, I've often wondered how many wifi type signals are around were I sleep or just around my home town. Well worth the few dollars for an excellent visualisation application well done to the dev!

Not an active reader...pointless

This is a app to visualize public knowledge and open to public coordinates... Better use Google to see most of this info and a visual of the location. This app is useless for if you are looking for active signals and is misleading in description.

Great app, love the features

You ever seen that star map app with AR? This is like that, except it uses geolocation data AND intercepts radio waves, getting unique addresses and distances to signals, etc. my guess is interception of id headers in the radio waves, instead of just ignoring the waves like normal and not knowing about them, it’s gathering the data into a visualization. Awesome stuff. Definitely worth my $3 lol. I found Sirius XM in geolock! Lmaoo Edit: I don’t read, it’s obtained from osint. Still dope :)
