Time saving alternative to traditional CPD
There are too many problems with traditional CPD to mention here however Armchair Medical seems to overcome a good many of them. Firstly there’s an enormous variety of lectures on the apps and website, so I always find something interesting to watch and I’m not forced to ‘learn’ what I don’t need to learn. (Traditional CPD mostly seems to be based upon what someone else wants me to learn, if you know what I mean) Secondly the speed control on the videos is handy and allows me to watch conferences in a fraction of the time of attending live events. Thirdly I don’t need to commit a whole weekend to a conference and I can watch the lectures in bite sized chunks while I exercise on my home treadmill each morning, it also means I don’t need to lock myself away in my office to do my CPD, I can multitask. My family appreciate that I need to exercise each day and watching the lectures while I do that means I don’t need to take additional time away from my family. Fourthly the price is good considering how many conferences you can watch in a year. Instead of attending one in person I can watch lectures from dozens. I feel I get broader exposure to current medical practice. Of course if you only watch a few lectures a month you should save your money and just browse the free content, however if you can do what I do and watch the lectures while you exercise, you’ll watch many conferences and get many times the value of what you pay. The only problem is there is too much to choose from. (It’s a bit like Netflix and it could be easy to spend half an hour deciding what to watch) To overcome that I tend to focus on a single conference at a time, watch most of those lectures and then choose the next conference and do the same again. It saves me needing to decide what to watch after each individual lecture.
