The app is obviously a great idea and Denver absolutely needs a user-friendly car rental app…but Avail is NOT IT. I’ve rented cars from Avail ~10x. I would say 3 of my rentals were successful with no issues. The other times, I experienced these problems: -the car I rented wouldn’t start and they canceled my rental, -the parking garage was inaccessible and they canceled my rental, -the lock box was “malfunctioning” and they canceled my rental, -the car I rented WASN’T ACTUALLY AVAILABLE and, you guessed it, they canceled my rental. Do not waste your time, energy, and patience using this app. Save yourself the frustration and headache and use an old school rental car service.
The ease of avail is actually very nice. I like the app and find everything has gotten better over time with their app (it used to be hot garbage). They outsource customer service and never had a good experience with them. But general use of getting a car has never been a problem! But now they keep adding more fees. Their is a new arbitrary “trip fee”. That wasn’t there a month ago. A $55 car is now costing almost $100 bucks for a day. Going to have to wind down using this service if prices don’t go down.
Absolutely awful customer service. All they have is an AI chatbot. Live customer support agents are never available.
Have used the app several times and been okay for the most part but one time I got to the location only to find out the car wasn’t available. Just had another booking that ended this week and they put an extra $53 charge on top of what was originally quoted—ridiculous.
Do not use this app or car rental service. They will cancel your rental last minute for bogus reasons and provide you with no support, other than a customer service chat. They only accept certain state driver’s licenses despite claiming to accept licenses from all 50 states. I am certain that this company is committing fraud and I would not recommend their services to anyone.
Do not use this company. I rented a vehicle with this company and within 5 minutes of pulling off the car stopped. The company tried to tell me that I had to either pay for the tow or get the car back to the lot. Neither of which made any sense nor should have been my responsibility. After arguing with customer service they set up a tow and picked up the vehicle. Four days later someone called questioning where the vehicle was. How am I to know? A week later I get a call saying I owe 7 days of the vehicle. How is that possible? I finally get what I thought was a resolution… they offer me $10.00, I go to make a new reservation. Apparently I’m banned from the site, because I rented a faulty vehicle
First time I rented, they tried to charge me $500 for damage to the car that was already there before. I swore off renting from them, but couldn't find any alternatives for Thanksgiving, so I gave them a second try. This time, I spent 2 hours in a cold parking garage text-chatting with some fellow. Nobody had put the ramp exit pass in the car, and the person on the line couldn't figure out how to get me out of there. I get the impression Avail is trying to set up a network by doing everything as cheaply as possible. "Move fast and break things" may make their investors happy, but it's me who got broken.
I’ve rented from this company atleast 6 times and it is always a problem. Last time, the lockbox wouldn’t open so they cancelled my trip right then and there and told me to book a different vehicle. Today i arrive and the car keys were not in the lockbox, again they cancelled my reservation and left me stranded. I insisted that they try to help me by locating the keys, figuring out why this happened and they just keep sending me automated messages. Stick to Enterprise and Hertz.
After months of using the service with no issue. My reservation was cancelled and the reason given was “…we cannot provide specifics on our methodologies…”. Agent was even less helpful.
