Avernum HD

Excellent game. Just finished all three major quests on hard difficulty and believe me, hard is really hard in this game. I liked: Turn-based fights. Scarce resources. Real open world. You can go anywhere. Low magic setting. Every new level your heroes get, counts. I disliked the fact that some fights were really hardcore and they took a lof of time to win. Along with some reloads.. and I didn’t plan to invest that much time into them. There are simply too many fights. Room -> fight -> another room -> fight. Move across a bridge -> fight. On the other hand, the game doesn’t have really nice visuals, there is also not much text so the only thing which keep you busy are those fights. I would like to see more puzzles or lore though.

This is a game that was in development for 15 years. No, I'm not kidding. The first iteration of this game appeared in 1995 as Exile. Later it was remade as Avernum and now again. So this is a third version of a hit and it shows. The game is huge. I've been playing for 30 hours now and I'm still nowhere near the end. The world is full of details, dungeons, secrets and quests, all lovingly hand-crafted. The world is open, but dangerous. Right from the beginning you can go anywhere you like. That is if you can survive. Which brings me to the next point. The game is pretty hard. Prepare to die often as you wander in a cave with much stronger adversaries. But then again the game is fair. It never sends you to a certain death. Quite the opposite, if you follow the breadcrumb trail of quests, they always lead you to the next doable areas. All in all this is probably the best mature RPG available on iPad as of writing this review (spring 2012). Buy it, you will love it.

Tahle hra má pro mě všechno, co má správné RPg mít. Výborný příběh plný uvěřitelných dialogů, naprostou volnost pohybu, volnost ve výběru postav, pěkný inventorář a spoustu předmětů a velmi dobře zpracované souboje. Grafika může působit lehce zastarale, ale nenechte se zmást. Je krásně detailní a svůj účel plní dokonale. Ještě musím zmínit jednu zvláštnost. Ačkoli má hra spoustu možností a různých nastavení, je velmi snadné do ní proniknout. Vše je totiž velmi logické a každý ovladači prvek je tam, kde byste jej očekávali. Cena naprosto odpovídá obsahu. Jen víc takto komplexních her!

I wanted to find a mobile RPG that was a real RPG, and not some scammy app full of pay walls. Not only does this meet that criteria, but the story line is awesome, the puzzles are compelling (except the lasers in 3; those were a pain in the A), and I could play the whole thing offline. I absolutely love this game. There’s not another mobile app like it. Great development work, thank you! I have played the whole thing, the first one twice, and I could play again. It’s a little different when you make different choices, too.

I first discovered this developer on the computer, and was thrilled to discover that they had released this game on the ipad. It has character classes, an interesting and engaging story, and fun mechanics. The world in the game is absolutely enormous as well. The only thing that might be a turn off for some is that this game is text heavy, but if you like a game that is great classic role-playing with huge replay value, this is it.

I absolutely love everything about this game and my characters are only level 6 at the moment. Can’t wait to continue further and so excited to see there are 3 more to the series I can play after this! I will be quite busy having a blast lol. Great writing, story,skills, ablitlies, items enemy’s u name it. Great job developers! Thanks for creating these!

Love the game, but it plays upside down on the iPad Pro, this means that I can't play the game docked in the keyboard and have to then pick it up and turn it around. Please fix.
