Beelinguapp: Language Learning

I did the 7 day trial and tried to cancel but couldn’t find the cancel option anywhere on the app. It said try premium and cancel anytime on the AppStore but couldn’t find the option there either. I wrote an email asking for help to cancel and now I just got charged the year rate.

Hi like the app and have paid for premium. The content is good and makes for a really effective way of learning a new language (more so than apps like Duolingo - which I also use - I find). However, the app has unfortunate bugs. The count of how many stories I have read this week just does not work. It resets to zero almost immediately after reading a story. There was a screen which came up and showed my progress through specific learning modules (going from A1 level all the way to C2) and I was using this last week but now it has disappeared and I have no idea how to get it back. Now I am back to reading random stories from the library with no way to track progress. I really hope the developers can resolve these issues because I think the way this app structures and facilitates language acquisition is really good.

I love this app, but it has one major flaw. They recently added a ‘your journey’ section on the app, which slowly builds up the language difficulty as you progress. It’s amazing. One of the best ways to learn a language I’ve ever seen. However, the problem is that there is an error/bug where the ‘your journey’ section becomes unavailable. It presents you with a button to ‘try again’ but the button does absolutely nothing, and there is no way of resolving the issue except by deleting and reinstalling the app. This is annoying, but the real problem is that deleting the app completely erases your progress. I have started from the beginning a few times hoping that it would not happen again, but the error screen always returns and the progress is always lost. There is no way to skip ahead in the ‘your journey’ section either, so you have to grind through the stories and the quizzes to get back to where you were, only to have the same error-screen come back making it essentially useless at this point. It’s a shame as the ‘your journey’ section is the only reason I subscribed to premium. Which means if nothing changes I’ll be cancelling my subscription renewal. I really hope this issue can be fixed as this new feature has such great potential. But in its current state is unusable If the issue is fixed I’ll change my review to 5 stars, as that’s what this feature would deserve

When this app works it’s great, but articles regularly close and cannot be reopened without restarting the app. The microphone also wouldn’t work for me. I have an iPhone 14

Within my first hour I’ve experienced several broken elements. For example it asks me to pronounce “Lesen” in German. I literally said “I enjoy shopping at Tesco express” and it told me “90% correct” and allowed me to move on. It clearly doesn’t listen at all to pronunciation. The vocabulary cards don’t show you the translation m; isn’t that their entire purpose? It’s sad because the reading feature is good but the app feels too broken in too many other places. not sure it’s worth the price they ask when it’s underdeveloped.

Had a Quick Look, not as much content as I was expecting. Would be helpful to clarify that it is Brazilian Portuguese at the beginning to avoid the frustration of having to sign up to find out.

I’ve had at least three separate issues with this, on iPhone and iPad, it just needs a lot more testing by the developers. The audio won’t play on some stories without causing some random issue and shutting down the story forcing it to be downloaded again (this never stops). Layout issues on smaller iPhone screen sizes making it almost unusable at times. And other random layout issues and such that just feel like they need some more attention to detail. Could be a really good app if the rough edges were ironed out! Also unnecessarily blocking copy and paste in the app so you can’t easily use an exterior dictionary, seemingly just so they can make a dictionary in the app seem like a premium feature you should pay for, is playing the user for a little bit of an idiot I feel. But I can tell a lot of work has gone into this, just needs some more spit and polish! I really feel that parallel reading could take off in the long run and this app does it well.

App crashes instantly every time for Greek language. Unusable.

I simply love it! It truly helps me to improve on my Spanish - it is entertaining and very useful. Place for improvements: - I love the quizzes after every reading. But to my taste quizzes are super short, only 3 questions. I really would like to test myself against the article I read. It would be nice to give a control option for the user, so in my case I could set the number of quiz questions / content I read. Think of it as like for a language exam to test the comprehension - 3 question is a very small sample size, I would test with at least 10 questions. Place for improvements: - Increase the limit to font size. I use my ipad, and I would even increase the text size more, because many times my Ipad is further away.
