This book is okay for selecting a book, logging your reads etc., but it’s not any better than a web browser. The audiobook functionality is horrible. It crashes constantly, and the only metric for how far into a book you are is how much time you have left (which I do like that it customized it based on your playback speed). I will not be getting any more audiobooks from Book of the Month.
Unsatisfied with charges
Unfortunately, I wanted to continue BOTM at my own pace. However after having my subscription paused for months, I was suddenly charged randomly without permission nor a heads-up email that I would be charged. I signed into my bank account this morning and saw a charge for renewals which I did not request. Signed into the app to get a lovely “welcome back!” Message. I did not request to have my subscription renewed yet. Now I will be requesting a refund (and if not will be disputing with my bank), and will be cancelling my account completely. Disappointed by this situation and I can no longer use a service that charges without permission or notification.
Books were good when I received them. Not worth the unexpected charges.
Best Gift Ever
Received a membership as a gift a while back, and continue purchasing my own memberships as well as giving out as gifts. I love the features of the app, the way each book is described, and the versatile choices offered each month. I almost like reading about each book to make a selection more than reading the book I pick. Almost.

In four months and put of off the selections. It’s all about LGBTQ or suicidal. I’m sick of the lgbtq being push down my throat. I get we have our surroundings but I can still be me.
Frustrating to listen to audiobooks
Love the BOTM subscription but very frustrating trying to listen to audiobooks on the app as it doesn’t hold your spot in the book and each time you re-launch the app you have to find your spot again.
audiobook glitches
the audiobook feature it so bad it’s basically unusable. it stops playing frequently and to start playing audio again i have to reload the app and jump forward about 15 seconds as it always restarts in a position i’ve already listened to. i frequently listen to audiobooks while driving so having to pick up my phone and reload the app poses a major hazard.
Good but could be great!
A subscription I don’t mind paying for! Decent variety of choices to choose from in genres and styles as well as a well built app.
Two things to improve upon:
1) PLEASE for the love of god provide an option for a paperback option. Hardcover books are more difficult to travel with and to read in bed etc. You recently released a short story book which is paperback so I know it is possible from whatever printer company you’re partnered with ;)
2) I think there could be a little improvement in how your ordering works in giving customers flexibility. In the app if you don’t like this months choices and want to choose a different month’s it only lets you see a predetermined list not just being able to browse previous months.
Love the app
The app makes it easy to choose books and is easy to navigate. I just wish we could see the options of books before the first of the month.
More concerned with their rebrand than UI
BOTM, you've been so focused on changing the logo just a smidge and adjusting the colors a hair, and making the bookmark larger that you stopped thinking about UI and removed the section of the app that shows a user *the books they’ve purchased from you.*

It’s now harder to review a book, mark book read, or figure out what books you already own so you can buy more. Silly silly. Kinda useless app now.

UPDATE in response to the developer response: Your statement is only half true, and doesn’t solve the issue.
The issue is that you removed the auto populated bookshelf of user purchases that made it easy to review, mark and access the books you own. Yes, there’s a section for “books you haven’t read” but it doesn’t auto populate. It requires a user to add every single book they’ve purchased from BOTM manually one by one.
That’s not the same functionality.
My complaint about the app still stands.
PS: The email address you suggest I reach out to about this bounced. So add that to the list of fixes.

I got the 5 dollar book deal to see what it was about little did i know i was signing myself up for over 20 dollars for a truly terrible list of books to choose from when i went to cancel my membership i was told i couldn’t cancel it until it was charged for another book. Total scam DO NOT BUY
