Bouncer: Text Messages Blocker

If my phone were accepting all the spam calls and texts I get, plus alerting me to a million calls I would have lost my mind. This app works in the background like the best secretary ever. I am able to check my unknowns whenever I want and I’m never missing anything important. I love apps that I don’t constantly have to mess with and this is so chill. Thank you developers.

I am on lists upon lists. Right now the spammers and scammers are taking a political angle. I added the area codes (like "+1 (111)" for the format to add to blocker, minus the quotes) that I have the most smishing/phishing trouble with AND keywords from all sides of the political spectrum, plus keywords on hot-button topics. As I get a new category to address, I add keywords there, too. These don't sync to using iMessage on MacBook or iMac, unfortunately, because I don't like using iCloud to sync messages. Anyway, I will definitely see if there's a tip jar because it's worth it to do so and write a review and I write app reviews maybe 5% or less of the time. The app author saved my sanity from deleting anywhere between 8 and 18 spam and smishing texts every day. Select all, "delete and report as junk" when I care to check, then voila.

Love how simple & iOS-centric the user interface is. A simulator would be very useful to test if my filters, especially those using RegEx, work.

This is a frankly amazing and sorely needed app that works well and saves good backups of your filter list. I wish there were a way to intercept SMS before it hits the Apple Watch but I suspect that is a platform and protocol limitation.

I think just about everyone in America could use this app! Te political spam texts have been especially insane for me, at least, in 2024, and when I got this app and added a few keywords (Democrats, Republicans, Trump, Biden, Court, Senate, Congress, vote), the craziness stopped. Interestingly, adding “http” didn’t work for me, but that’s fine because I don’t want to block appointment reminder texts from my dog groomer, dentist, etc. This app is a godsend, thank you!!!!!!!

Once you get your filters set, you can say goodbye to advertisements, political texts, and anything else that annoys you. Highly recommended, and if you know how to use Regular Expressions it works even better.

The only app that worked for unsolicited political texts. I just added a few text word filters - Biden, Trump, Democrat, Republican, and a few more - and all of those political $ requests went straight to junk.

Thank you to all the developers and contributors to this amazing open source project!! It’s dead simple to use and effective in its execution. In retrospect, I’m surprised something this simple isn’t built natively into the Messages app. Consider adding a tip jar button right within the app for people to donate a few bucks.
