Chess Genius

Good. I thought it was not easy enough at first at low levels but now I think it is. I don't regret buying it but there are very good free ones. This makes common sense use of space. I would like to see an audible "check" and "checkmate" sound male or female choice. Putting opponent faces on the computer app levels would improve it too if done well. Liked it plenty. Keep adding more!

Used this engine on the Palm series, but it's even better on iPad.

Just bought for 5 pounds after reading great reviews. It was useless. Not a friendly app to configure or use. Mistake to buy this.

This is easily the best Chess App for the iPhone and I've tried them all (yes, all of them). It may not be the strongest chess engine for the iPhone but then you're not going to find something of Rybka's (strongest chess program currently available) strength without a PC. Besides the difference in strength at this level shouldn't much too much difference, if you can beat Chess Genius you can probably beat any chess application on the iPhone. There are many different difficulty levels to choose from which should keep someone looking for a computer opponent happy however it's the other features that really sets Chess Genius above the rest. For instance, you can save and load multiple games into PGN format which you can then email yourself, so it works quite nicely alongside real games on the chessboard, where you can replicate and save the games (for further analysis with Rybka etc). It will also tell you the opening, helping to develop your opening knowledge. You can set-up positions easily, which is useful for working along side chess books that provide a position where you have to find the best move just load the position up and play through. You can also switch sides easily (in case you're wondering -why didn't the computer play that?) and one very nifty feature includes a request that asks the computer takes back it's last move and make the next best move. This feature alone is a little gem and is great for nutting out the many different variations of an opening. This App is worth the extra money, go for it!

I have played with many chess computer programmes. This one has been the best. The layout of the board is perfect. The best feature is that this programme let's you take back any number of moves, so it is a great learning tool. There are a number of skill levels, so you can progress up the ladder slowly. I am a total chess addict again. I would rate this application five stars.

Chambers86 writing in note 5 should understand that if the King has only been in ' check' it may still 'Castle' as long as the 'check' was blocked and the King remalned on it's original square. It is illegal to 'Castle' if the King has previously been moved away from it's original square and then returned back to it. The application itself is first class and I would happily recommend it's purchase to any keen chessplayer .

I like this application a lot. It's got a great engine an a nice interface. The only thing I don't really like are the piece sets, a shame because I think they do a disservice to an, otherwise, great application. Having an option to show the coordinates at the bottom/left of the board would be a nice touch as well.

The recent update solved the only problem I could see with this application, that the pieces looked jagged at the edges. Also piece movement is now more definite. Great work, I can recommend this game. Alan
