Collins British Wildlife

This app is an excellent collection of photographs and descriptions of British/Irish wildlife: mammals (incl cetaceans), birds, insects, butterflies, spiders, reptiles, fish, flowers, trees, shrubs, grasses, fungi (and more). The photographs are very good quality, and the descriptions are brief but coscise, and manage to cover the most important details. I've had copies of this in paperback form for several years, and found it excellent. My only complaints about this app are (1) the print size is a little small for those who need reading glasses (an option to vary the font size would be helpful), and I miss the groupings in the book (e.g. the crow page/section in the book also shows the related birds including jay/raven/magpie, the duck section includes wigeon/teal/scoter/...); and this slows down the identification process: you need either (1) to know all the names, or (2) go through the entire list. A section or index that shows groupings of related/similar species would be a tremendous benefit, particularly to newbies and children and beginners/dabblers.

For example it confuses maidenhair spleenwort (Asplenium trichomanes) with a maidenhair fern (Adiantum sp)

So pleased that this app has been updated. Thought I had lost it following the latest IOS update. It may not be very sexy or technologically advanced but it covers most categories of our British wildlife as a book would do. You do need to know some basics though to help with identification - particularly with wildflowers and birds. It would be useful to include similar looking species as an option.

Question: if I see a plant that I am unfamiliar with, how am I supposed to find out what it is using this app? Answer: You don’t. The only way you could use this app is if you already knew the names of all the plants and wildlife. So...... I really don’t see how this app is supposed to help anyone who isn’t an expert. Really want my £9.99 back already☹️

Not working since os11 update.

Having paid for this app I didn’t expect to find it no longer functioning after the update. Please can you update the app so the people who have paid good money for it can use it again...or give us a refund perhaps? I would NOT buy any other apps from this company! It’s money wasted as they don’t keep them updated. I can no longer use an app I paid for!

Terrible. Your guides are the best wildlife books in the world. This app is a disgrace. Still not updated it, not been working for months. We expect better. Sb

This was a great app but unfortunately the developers have given up on it

This app cost me a lot of money and now I can’t use it because it is not compatible with my iPad since I updated it. Come on Collins, your reputation is at stake here!!
