Good Piano

A lot of people moan that you don’t get to try first. If anything buy the piano’s with the higher velocity layers, they sound good. If you don’t like it from off the bat get a refund. The 24 layer piano is a bit overpriced, I’m yet to try it because of the price. Each piano has its own character. I’d hoped for more from the bright Japanese as it is meant to have 12 velocity layers although it is only about a gig in size so I’m guessing the quality of the samples is not that great. By far my favourite is the vintage upright which has 8 velocity layers at 3.4 gig. I feel the sampled have been normalised and denoised and sound a bit pristine. The low C1 is a good bit out of tune. The thunk of the hammers is way too loud even if set at zero and is basically the same sample for each note and sounds unnatural when on. This needs sorting. The reverbs are okay. The halls, rooms are decent. The cathedral sound a bit mad and unnatural in my honest opinion. A global eq and some presets would be handy.

Lots of bugs!

This is not a bad reproduction of a grand piano. It has a very detuned/chorused sound which is almost reminiscent of the Yamaha CP70 electric grand piano. In certain registers the Colossus Piano sounds more like an upright piano than a grand piano. I have also purchased the upright piano which isn't bad. I've also purchased the electric piano pack, which is okay for an app on your iPhone. I have also purchased the Japanese grand which sounded pretty impressive in the video on the website, but was quite disappointing with regards the quality of it's dynamics and sounded quite muddy. I have also experienced the app crashing when trying to load MIDI files and the colossus grand just keeps reloading when trying to play a midi file. If you want to change between sounds/piano types, you have to scroll through each piano type which takes ages as each one loads before you get to the one you want. Hopefully all these issues will be sorted out in an update. It is still a very impressive app to have on an iPhone, but for the price that I have paid for all the different in app purchases it's a bit disappointing. Update: I think this app has greatly improved with the updates and I would recommend buying it.

AVOID!!!

I’m rather shocked by this considering it comes from the same developer as iSymphonic Orchestra which has a range of demo sounds - this is just the user interface and sound engine - whilst I appreciate that gives the buyer the option to purchase any of the pianos, the only one worth having is the very misleading advertised version costing £49.99. Disgraceful behaviour - reminiscent of the street -seller trick of selling one genuine product to his stooge and then churning out utter garbage counterfeits based on the “exclamations of joy” from the stooge! There are several examples in this developer’s list of apps - the dev is also very good at ‘lying by ommision’ even in their one decent app. Sort your house out - it’s destroying your reputation!!

What a rip-off

I downloaded this and you can’t do anything until you pay £48 to unlock... i’m not paying this without trying it first, in fact i’m not paying this at all, I could buy a real one for that!

Very good, and I believe would benefit from release samples

The 24 velocity layered main piano sound is excellent, the best sounding I have come across on iOS. Love the tinkly top end and the dynamics. Main area for improvement for me is the deadness of the release phase. Not the hammer sound, which is fine, but the decay of the sound when you let go is way to quick and not adjustable as far as I can tell. It doesn’t sound like there are any release samples. I can mask this somewhat with a short room reverb / early reflections, but real release samples would be ace at this price point.

Not even a trial before I have to pay £48?

Downloaded this and no mention of in app purchases. Then I find you don’t have any chance to try this before buying and you want £48. Absolute joke!

Incredible! Colossus Concert Grand

Having tried all the iPad Piano offerings from iPiano, Garage Band, SampleTank, 3D Piano, CMP, BV-16i. This one, Colossus Concert Grand wins hands down. On my iPad 2017 10.5 inch, setting polyphony to 260, for stereo layers with Pad and hammer sound, it is difficult to out play this. The response curves, level and reverb settings allow fine tuning. Great dynamics, response, realistic stereo sound. My only complaint is the absence of ability to save setups, which I'm told is coming soon. Nice one Crudebyte!

Simply stunning.
