Cook’s Illustrated, launched in 1993, is located just outside Boston where a team of more than three dozen test cooks, editors, and cookware specialists work in a 2,500-square-foot test kitchen. Cooks Illustrated am iPad ist eine einsame Top-Liga für sich
Nachdem ich Cook's Illustrated die letzten zehn Jahre mit Vergnügen (die Printausgabe war in Europa schweineteuer) gelesen habe gibt's die Bibel für jeden, der sich für Kochen interessiert nun auch am iPad. Technisch hervorragend umgesetzt. Tolle Grafik und Videos unterstützen den Leser. Cook's Illustrated ist eine eigene Liga für sich und mit keinem herkömmlichen ‚Kochbuch' vergleichbar.
Und im Vergleich zu der gedruckten Cook’s Illustrated Ausgabe preislich auch noch ein absoluter Wühltisch.
Fachlich ist CI der souverän vorantrabende Leitwolf vor einer mühsam hinterher hechelnden Meute - die ihn dennoch nie erreicht.
Dennoch bleibt Cook's Illustrated auch für Laien immer klar verständlich.
Wobei komplexe technisch, physikalisch, chemische Zusammenhänge popupärwissenschaftlich einfach erklärt werden - was so manchen 'aha' Effekt auslöst.
Als Beispiel: Mir war zum Beispiel nie klar warum sich bei Lasagne manchmal Wasser (welches sich vom Käse und Sahne trennt - man nennt das 'Brechen' der Emulsion) unten in der Schale ansammelt (manchmal auch nicht) während die Lasagne oben austrocknet. Warum die Zugabe eines halben Teelöffels Stärke zur Masse diesen Effekt 100% tig verhindert und den recht komplexen Hintergrund chemisch/physikalisch einfach verständliche erklärt ist spannender als so manches Oberligaspiel.
Jeder der sich für Kochen auf einer praxisnahen und fachlich hohen Stufe interessiert kann an CI nicht vorbeigehen.
Not what it used to be
I’ve been a subscriber to this app for 10 years now, and it’s not what it used to be. Where did all the interactive features go, the ones that you still tout in the app description, and on your website? During COVID, it changed to what is basically a PDF, and that was ok for back then, but it hasn’t changed back. And now, I, and others apparently, haven’t gotten the May-June 24 issue yet, and not a peep anywhere about it.
Cook’s illustrated magazine app just keeps going downhill.
The May/June issues not available on the app. I can get it on my library app for free. All the great features that disappeared with the pandemic have never returned. If you try for app support, it takes you to their site but there is no support. I have call and have been told numerous times it is Apple’s app, and they do not support it. I just so frustrating.

No latest issue
I’m not getting the May/June 2024 issue, and I know it’s out. Fortunately my renewal date is in a few days. So I’m not renewing. Shoddy management here. Disappointing.
Where's my most recent issue?
I love the magazine, but I have emailed about my most recent issue for May/June 2024 which isn't there, but no response. I know is out because it is on Apple News. I'm a paying subscriber! Why isn't the app updating?? I like to save my magazines to refer back to them. And yes, I have restored my previous purchases to make sure that there wasn't a glitch somewhere. I want my magazine or else I may as well unsubscribe.
Only got the first 2 issues of a 12 subscription.
Have this problem even after refreshing purchase. No response from customer service.
Not updating
My Cook’s Illustrated Magazine is not giving me the update to the May-June 2024 issue. Please fix this. I would also like the interactive features restored for app users. MG
Where is the current issue?
I have been a subscriber to Cooks Illustrated for decades, most recently this iPad version. The latest edition (May-June 2024) is available to me as an Apple News+ subscriber and has been since early in the month. However, your iPad app is still just offering me the March-April edition, on the 17th of the month. The new issues reliably appeared shortly after the first of the month they were expected. Why is the content available now on Apple News but not in the app? The interactive features disappeared with the pandemic (is working from home really preventing these features from being reinstated, or is it just cost savings?) and the release of the electronic version keeps getting delayed more with each issue. It is feeling like you really want to abandon this version of the magazine, it is an afterthought.
All Access doesn’t work
I bought the all access subscription for CI, ATK and CC. I downloaded the apps and was able to log into ATK. No luck with CI and CC. Called support and they said their apps do not work with Safari. I canceled my subscription as all I have is IOS and MacOS devices. If it doesn’t work with the native browser then why bother creating the app? My advice, don’t waste your time if the technology decisions do not allow it work properly.
