A competent TD with very abusive timers and slot machines

The authors sure did their homework and know how to create a competent, fun Tower Defense game. The variety of towers, spells and heroes (represented as cards of differing rarity and levels) as well as enemies allows for varied strategies. All cards can be upgraded, which provides a light RPG element. This competency is however overshadowed by very abusive pay-to-win elements such as timers and slot machines. To upgrade a card, you need two cards of a lower level. So in order to achieve the highest level, level 8, you need 2^7, or 128 level 1 cards. How do you get so many cards? You play a slot machine. Now there are various ways to play a slot machine for free. You can defend an outpost once a day, or play in an arena once every three hours, both of which reward you with a random level 1 card. Or you can play a paid slot machine - buy a card pack. Every action you do in the game starts a timer. Whether you play a regular game, play in an arena, in a tower full of repeating, increasingly difficult maps, or upgrade a card. You can bypass most of these timers with crystals, which you earn ever so slowly just by playing, or, you guessed it, you can buy them. The timers for upgrading cards quickly climbs to hours and even days. It costs around 4 Eur to skip a 24 hour timer. There are hundreds of timers you need to subject yourself to in order to progress in the game. So you either wait for days for your cards to upgrade (you can always upgrade just one card at a time), or you pay to skip. You do the math. Crazy Kings is a competent Tower Defense game destroyed in later parts by its abusive business model.
