Dawncaster: Deckbuilding RPG

This is the first game in ages that I didn't drop after 3 hours of playing. Amazing deckbuilder, which actually takes some skill to master, so many deck variations that you can play it daily for months and still keep finding new strategies/outcomes. Devs are active too. 10/10

The game is continuously developed so I am happy to keep coming back, it is monetized well (I don't feel the need to buy DLC as they mainly add variety to the game), with the recent rework of class progression its a pretty good game, however I feel like some aspects could be improved: - campsites could have additional uses such as upgrades - runs could be a little bit faster, e.g. faster animations or just less events, not sure how to improve this exactly - quests seem quite difficult to complete and without completing quests character progression seems slow - I can close game before dying (or after making a bad choice) and reopen to start battle again or chose different path - some builds are easy to figure out / fun but some are hard to get without looking for help online great work

Devs are really continuously improving game and game mechanics as well as they are not damaging game by unreasonable in-game purchases. Very rare to see these days game and devs like here. My sincere thanks for your work!

I've played dozens of card rpg games and this one is good it's just the time limit doesn't make sense. The unrealistic pressure while the battle is turn based is pretty weird,feels like developers just looking for an excuse to deduct our points when it's already hard to earn them.

This game is equivalent to a bad video game knockoff of the movie groundhogs day. You will find yourself in an endless loop of repetitive dialog. The card “collecting” is not actually collecting and means nothing. It simply logs that you have encountered that card at some time in the game like a Pokédex. The leveling requires gems earned through challenges and by completing game runs. This would normally be okay, but being that you only get a few on runs that take half an hour or more of your time seems more like grinding. People comparing this or even saying it’s better than Slay The Spire are out of their minds.

Such a fun game. Easy to learn but tough to master. I’ve logged 80 hours and still look forward to every run.

As a boardgame designer myself with 2 Deckbuilding games under my belt, I can say that this game takes the mechanism to the 11th level. It does what a physical boardgame cannot do (efficiently), altering card types, adding key words, transforming energy types, etc. Most importantly, it’s a fun game that will make you think… a lot because if you die, your run ends. At first I was taken aback by that but after a few plays, this added to the tension and importance of selecting the right cards to add or cut from your deck. If you like Gloomhaven, Mage Knight, Dune: Imperium, or other modern games, this one won’t disappoint!

Overall I’ve enjoyed this title for many hours over the last few years. The game Devs are active, releasing fun updates and breathing new life into the game occasionally. As a roguelite deck building game, the replayability is already really high, and the addition of weekly challenges has been a lot of fun to see how far you can stretch builds. One of my favorite features of this game is that it it played in portrait view on the phone. As a husband who’s wife tends to fall asleep on one of my arms, this is my go to app because it can be played on handed pretty easily. If you enjoy roguelite games or deck building games, definitely give this a try!

Started playing this after StS and got hooked. I love the character progression, and the various story choices that open things. I know I have not really found them all, mostly because I am lazy. I do wish they were documented better somewhere, so I could try them out. I have been playing it solid for at least a year. I have the usual balance gripes but overall a great and well designed game. I will happily buy whatever they let me as then developers dedication to keeping the game fresh with both paid and free expansions is awesome.

This game is so excellent. Graphics, art, play styles, possibilities- everything is executed so well I’d recommend it to anyone but especially though who love slay the spire or MtG.
