Old Garmin dogger
I have ran Garmin track and train handheld and collars for the past 8 years. When the time to up grade came around, the Pathfinder 2 was released and time tested it enough for it to catch my attention. I have been running the regular sized collar and the mini for the past two months on my pack of Versatile gun dogs using tone and pager to communicate stop and recall. I have found more consistent behaviors with these cues in compared to the Garmin units. The Pathfinder 2 unit has made the transition between communication seem-less. Thank you Dogtra! Josh Milner
A lot of potential if feedback taken
So much potential with this device but there’s some really weird UX choices and I’ve had the app crash already once when updating the ecollar fence. — 1. The watch app needs some customization options, I don’t use all 5 ecollar options so it almost makes sense to make a screen that has the same function button only on it, it’s very fiddly with so many buttons — 2. What does “View all” even do on the compass? Do we need a dedicated compass tab? — 3. Locking the ecollar is the most unintuitive thing — 4. Use haptic feedback on the ecollar buttons, you want to know it’s been pressed and not stare at the device. — 5. Why does nick/constant need its own segmented control? I assume most people use one or the other — 6. Geo fences need some work, you’d think it’d be more intuitive to simply set a geofence and mark it as a “efence” instead of a dedicated efence tab. — 7. The volume button options would be nice to attach to the function button for ecollar commands — 8. There’s an “alerts” setting for the receiver that I have no clue does and the alert description is downright useless. — 9. Such a specific use case to put a marker called “My Truck” when the app opens from cold start 10. What the heck does receiver lock actually do? Shouldn’t this be in the receiver settings? Why does it end up turning back off when I reopen the app? — Also I would never use the efence feature personally, I am just imagining a scenario where I drive away and the dog gets an immediate stim because I forgot to turn it off. There probably needs to be some combination of mobile fence and efence that needs to happen here. — By the way syncing the efence is what crashed the app, it isn’t very confidence inspiring for a feature that’s pretty hard to test to begin with. Also also, why does the transmitter have to annoyingly beep while it gets any updates? Seems unnecessary.
Pathfinder 2
Not bad, I love the efence setting saves me the hassle of having to bury one. The one suggestion that I wish this had is a feature to quickly mark something. I use this to track deer and if I spot blood I have to click the marker, then I have to drag it to the spot I’m at. I wish I could just hit one button and it would mark my location.
Hard to use
These collars are expensive and only work when they want to
Location issues
On our iPad location is off with tracking and our location. As a result of this it makes more work for us to make sure our dog doesn’t get corrected when he is within his boundaries. When used with our cell phones tracking is more accurate and tracking is within inches.
Garbage
GPS is great! If you need to alert your dog that it’s getting too close to a boundary or use the shock you get absolutely nothing. Paid way to much money for absolute garbage! I will go out of my way to stop anyone and everyone from buying this product. Don’t waste your money. Before anyone can say anything. Yep, it’s update! Yep, it’s all connected! Yep, I’ve read the manual and everything is as it should for this piece of trash to work properly. Still doesn’t work. Once again I’ll talk anyone out of buying it.
Help
My collar only works 15ft away the farther you go it don’t do anything but flash

I like the collars but have been having trouble with the tracking on one of the three I purchased since new and now two months of ownership, it has stopped tracking altogether , it’s frustrating being it’s brand new product , other than that I do like the system and enjoy being able to track them on my phone , I will be sending that one collar in to be repaired , I’m assuming that will be covered under warranty
UPDATED: There’s room for improvement
Update: “I’ve grown to love it after multiple uses. While it does take some time for the collar to connect, I usually turn the devices on way before arriving to my hiking destination and let them connect to the app on its own. Then the signals pickup throughout the drive and stay connected throughout. As for the beeping, I removed the beeping issue and I have no more problems!”
When turning on the remote, there is an instant connection to my phones app. However, when turning on the collar, it seems like it takes forever to sync with my phone. It takes at least 5 minutes to get the dog collar recognized by the app. I’ve tried with cellular / wifi and without. I wished it connected instantly like with the remote. Secondly, if your app is not running in the background, the remote beeps loudly and it can be annoying at times. I’d rather the phone vibrate or ping 1 notification that it has been disconnected. Or have an option to turn the beeping off
Map
Why are the maps so old? Was excited for this however once I installed the app I realized the maps are years old. Trees, fences, property lines change through the years. Maps should be updated.
