language errors, primitive font
around 5 pct of the vocabulary has some kind of concrete issue, like mismatching illustration/ pronunciation/ translation or simply terrible audio. an additional 15 pct have translations/ illustrations that are not quite good. often an illustration is only vaguely suggestive or allegorical where a much clearer and unambiguous illustration could easily be thought of. for the remaining 80 pct vocab, everything is just great and the app (for chinese) has the potential to be a true gem if everything is a little better curated. mostly, the sound in chinese is clear and agreeable. an ESSENTIAL requirement: please provide a chinese "kai ti" type font since this is a much clearer and vastly more didactic font type/family. with kai ti, the components of a hanzi are clearly distinguishable - in contrast to the current crude bold blockish-font - thus facilitating the mnemonics for hanzi recall. in general, different fonts should be available/ optionally selectable for chinese and any language where the script (due to its complexity) depends crucially on the font. if only one font can be made available, it should definitely be a kai ti font. also, in certain places an option to increase the font size should be provided. a chinese hanzi is vastly more intricate than an alphabet character and should be provided with a reasonable level of visual support and quality. a serious problem (w/ chinese) is that revealed sound and hanzi dissapears immediately, and often is even spoken over / slightly overlapped by the next challenge. please provide option to "hold" revealed sound/text for longer time and/or an option to repeat the sound. i would be happy to hear the developers public response wrt the above points, on this review site, as opposed to repeatedly and mechanically replying "thanks for your ... please contact us by mail ..." i have already submitted ~100 concrete issues and problems through the app. free of charge;-)
