Element X brings you both sovereign & seamless collaboration built on Matrix.
The collaboration capabilities include chat & video calls with the modern set of features such as:
• public & private channels
• room moderation & access control
• replies, reactions, polls, read receipts, pinned messages, etc.
• simultaneous chat & calls (picture in picture)
• decentralized & federated communication across organizations
All this comes in a secure & sovereign fashion without compromising responsiveness or overall usability of the app:
• enterprise-grade single sign-on
• easy & secure login & device verification via QR-code
• end to end encryption & zero trust
• protection against MITM & other cyber attacks
If you’re a new user, use the new Element X app from the start. Compared to the current Element app you will get:
• greatly enhanced performance, sleek user interface and overall better user experience
• enterprise-grade support for single sign-on (OIDC)
• QR-code based login & device verification
• natively integrated Element Call for video calls
• continuous improvements, bug fixes and new features
If you’re an existing user, using the current Element app - check out the new Element X and start planning your transition. The current Element app will be phased out and will only get critical security updates.
Own your data
Matrix-based, Element X lets you self-host your data or choose from any free public server (the default is matrix.org, but there are plenty of others to choose from). However you host, you have ownership; it’s your data. You’re not the product. You’re in control.
Interoperate natively
Enjoy the freedom of the Matrix open standard! You have native interoperability with any other Matrix-based app. So just like email, it doesn't matter if your friends, partners or customers are on a different Matrix-based app - you can still connect.
Encrypt your data
Enjoy your right to private conversations - free from data mining, ads and all the rest of it - and stay secure. Only the people in your conversation can read your messages.
Chat across multiple devices
Stay in touch wherever you are with fully synchronized message history across all your devices, even those running Element legacy app, and on the web at https://app.element.io

Huge improvement in UX but comes with a loss of some functionality
The app looks and runs amazing, but there is no user management nor message search, so I need to keep the old element installed for more advanced actions. PLEASE restore the “Modern” message UI, the app would be a 5 for me if that was brought back; the bubbles take up too much screen space for my taste!
Missing Features
It’s missing the ability to manage sessions, security settings, basically do anything that you would expect a matrix client to do except show messages. Will increase rating when more basic features are added.
Can't get past recovery key screen
Created and saved my recovery key but it just pops up a warning about saving it. Can't get past this point.
Too much is missing
I’m trying to embrace this for my teams but there’s too much missing for this to be a viable solution for them. Why can’t I just see a list of channels grouped in their spaces? Why can’t I pin a post? Matrix is great. The app ecosystem is not.
Settings require desktop app
I think the app interface is great, but I don’t seem to be getting notification sounds, which is problematic.
EDIT: My notifications weren’t set to “noisy” in the desktop app. I’ve since updated that setting (on the desktop app) and now am getting notification sounds on mobile. Would be nice to control the setting for the mobile app also.
Getting There
WAY better UI and sync than the previous app.
Only missing extra rooms/servers. Getting some weird duplications with a few specific contacts though.
Could show the URL of homeserver instantly?
It takes me 30s to show the “matrix.org”, then I change it to my homeserver. Maybe the ISP blocks the matrix.org website, I guess. So I desperately hope just display the interface “matrix.org” when logining and don’t have to wait the connection to matrix.org. In that case, we can change the homes ever url quickly. thank you guys.
Good potential but lacking
I want to rate this highly but there’s so many features missing from this as compared to Element. Threads is a huge one as if voice calling and voice notes. This app has tons of potential
It's a start, need a lot of work
Basics work better then the orginal Element App, but still missing a lot of features.
Voice to Text (system) still does not fuction correctly, always gets cut off. Release notes said fixed but the bug is still there.
Threading does not work, messages just show up in-line the main chat.
Hoping dev picks up on this app.
Chinese input
The Chinese input always has some problems, even for the latest version.
