Unit measures apparent power. Says nothing about your real consumption. Advertising isn’t correct.
This app tells me so much about my home and is surprisingly accurate to the power companies meter. After just a couple of weeks I’ve learned that my washing machine breaker isn’t being used, but in reality it is actually on the same breaker as my dishwasher. There is a wire coming out of the washer breaker but has never had any power. Next I learned that changing my furnace filter, actually reduced the wattage on my blower. I just assumed it was constant power but it actually reduced it by 50 watts after replacing out the 3 month old filter. My TV was having more and more issues with streaming. My wife thought that it was the WiFi but after I installed this monitor I found that the TV was always pulling about 12 watts, even when off.? I found that the TV was never truly shutting all of the way down so I put a smart plug on it and cycle the power at night. Not only does it stop pulling power after the plug turns back on, but now the TV does a full start up there first time it’s turned on and the streaming problems are so much better. It just needed a full reboot, basically like a computer. The app is very user friendly and shows me everything at any level of detail that I could ask for and so much more. It can be a little glitchy sometimes until I blow it out of memory and load it fresh but it has already helped me in so many ways including verifying my solar is working and feeding the house the right amount. I show it off to everyone and highly recommend it.
For more than a year, I’ve been reporting a caching bug to Emporia support and even debugged it for them. If you have multiple EV chargers, switching from first to second will still show charging history for the first one. If I kill the app and go to EV charger #2 straight, I get the right charging history for EV #2. Clearly a app caching issue that’s an easy fix. Why the heck they would not fix a simple bug like this it is beyond me. Clearly support and product manager are not collaborating
The app provides necessary information but it is clunky and basic. I have not seen any substantial update to its functionality, only bugs fixes. So much potential 🙁
I’ll update my review once it’s fixed but the last update had me wondering what was wrong with my system. It’s useless. Everything is stuck at a magical 57%.
The app no longer allows you to select points on the graph to get point data. For example the x-axis shows broad time ranges but doesn’t allow you to select a bar to see what a spike or dip in value actually is. The realtime info seems to be the only use at the moment. I would also like to be able to combine/aggregate inputs eg for a sub-panel.
The charger is hugely limited by the capabilities or lack of them in the app. The app is very poorly thought out with several lacking features. There are graphs but there are severely limited in how you interact with them. Switching from watts to amps to currency on the graph requires 2-3 clicks through buried menus versus being able to simply touch the unit on the graph. The UI/UX feels like it was designed for a 8 year old. Common guys, do better than just throwing something together in a month and hoping folks like it.
The app is basically only good for setting a charging schedule or switching the EV charge on/off. Graphs and data are hard to digest. If you charge at the beginning of a month, you can’t see reliable data because the app and graph default that charge session to the previous month. App needs drastic improvements.
Insist that the most accurate way to measure a 50amp breaker is to attached two sensors, one on each pole 25x2. The same goes for 30amps 15x2. The problem is the app cannot combine the two poles and give you the average. So you have two separate values and two separate names like EV on your list. This is an easy fix that a 12 year old coder can fix that they’ve been promising to work on for the last 3 years. I understand they, not a Silicon Valley company but someone from UPwork can fix this for $200.
