A brilliant, must-have danmaku

I’ve spent WAY more time with this one than I’d care to admit, and I don’t even like danmaku games! EotU is as hard as nails, but don’t let its high difficulty scare you off; it’s the right kind of challenging, the kind that makes you, the player, WANT to “git gud.” I just have three issues/complaints: the warp projector will crash the game when equipped on any ship some reason; the game crashes without fail on level 59/60 of adventure mode (my phone’s an older model, so this one might not be the game’s fault); and the game doesn’t tell you HOW to unlock new ships and weapons—when you unlock something, it just shows you a prompt saying you’ve unlocked it. Even with the aforementioned issues, the game’s a great time for danmaku fans and non-fans alike. I highly recommend it.

Major Bug

overall an amazing, well-made game that I would definitely recommend. I’ve enjoyed playing this game for several hours, but a game-breaking bug has really hurt my view of this game. another review has already mentioned this, but every time the warp needle cannon appears (can’t remember the exact name, but the light weapon that bounces between enemies) the game freezes and an error message is displayed. since it is impossible to avoid having the weapon appear, it is frustrating for runs to be deleted. I do love this game and hope that this bug can be fixed soon <3

Hello Love this game. The second plasmoid gun that bounces from one enemy to another keeps crashing my game when I choose to equip it. Please fix this. Thank you. I have the newest iPad mini.

Great game

It’s even better than you think

This game blows me away. It is so much fun! A seemingly simple one touch control scheme for a SHMUP blossoms into amazing, harrowing epic space battles that will keep you entertained until the End of the Universe! At first, I too had difficulty with the control scheme, dragging my finger around my ship and blocking my own screen. That was until I realized you can just use any position on the screen as a virtual joystick and keep your fingers out of the way. The controls are actually more responsive than they appear on first use. You just have to spend some time with them. Spoilers below if you are having trouble advancing in the game. The game is wicked fun. If roguelike SHMUP space battles are in your blood, this is the game you need to buy! Update: Weeks later, and I still can’t put this game down! -Steve Z ***SPOILER ALERT*** The more time you spend with the game, the better you will become. This first tip isn’t a spoiler per se, but I encourage you: do not give up hope after just a few runs. The one touch control is genius, and allows anyone to have a virtual joystick ambidextrously, anywhere on the screen. You don’t even have to play the game in portrait mode, if you’d rather turn it landscape. But the game text will still be rotated 90 degrees though. The invisible, virtual joystick is magnitude-sensitive. Meaning, the farther out you drag your thumb from where you began touching, the faster the ship will go. So if you need to keep things slow and steady, use a light touch and control how far you move your thumb. Practice drawing tiny circles on your screen. Then draw bigger ones, and you’ll feel the difference. You can almost slow the ship to a crawl with practice, then rush forward to avoid a near miss laser blast! Boost is your friend. At first you’ll crash around a bit. Then you will come to realize, that you don’t just boost in the direction you were going. You can swipe to boost in any direction - your ship can make sudden course changes this way! Now suddenly, you’re making commando hit-and-runs on star destroyers, and dancing among the asteroids! The story choices are not arbitrary. The pain you feel will be your teacher. In the beginning, focus on getting XP power ups to advance your permanent ship options. It doesn’t matter if you die and only got one XP that run, you just made progress. That’s roguelike in a nutshell. That’s all for now. Go play! As you progress, the game opens up beyond the small contained sector levels.

Some Fixes, Then Greatness

The developer clearly continues to care about his game (which makes sense after so much effort already put in!). The last couple of updates have been awesome. Here are my further suggestions: 1. Boost gets me killed more often than it helps. Now that two finger control is in, maybe make boost activate when swiping with the second finger? 2. There is a bug where you end up on a stage with infinite squid things (tentacles and with mouth on top). They keep spawning even if you kill them over and over for an hour and your hand cramps up painfully. Another thing to note is that when this happens the squid things also have a glitched attack where they have the spark animation but no “bullets” fly out. So the poor things are defenseless except for ramming you. Every time I’ve gotten this glitched stage (twice now) I’ve maxed out my ship XP, since they continue to drop that. 3. What is the logic behind when you unlock a ship? I have all my ships maxed out and any further runs seem to just waste XP until I “magically” unlock a new ship between stages. Also, a better way to manage your hangar would be cool, like the screen on the promotional stuff where you see all your ships arranged in a grid. 4. More scenarios, with greater impact on game play, are of course welcome. I have all of the in game text and choices memorized lol.

Worst control I have ever experienced on iOS.

I have two specific criticisms: 1. There is a significant delay between when you touch down on the screen and when the ship responds to your input. I cannot understand why this exists in a game with tiny, cluttered stages, and bullets flying everywhere. If you need to adjust your finger mid-combat, you’re probably going to get hit. 2. If the ship keeps moving forward when you lift your finger, then why allow the player to decelerate at all? Why not just have the ship decelerate to a stop when you lift your finger? The current system makes the opposite of sense... it’s like having a car that goes forward in neutral and goes into neutral when you throw it in reverse. Immortal Rogue had tight and intuitive controls. What exactly happened here? In its current state, this game is trash.

Great game! Very addictive!

Great idea, a few suggestions

It’s a fun and addicting game to play a few minutes at a time. Has some clear similarities to Immortal Rogue, so fans of that should like this. Interesting decisions in upgrading the ship. At first seems impossibly difficult but gets better with practice. A few minor complaints: 1. I wish there were something useful to do with XP once the ship is at level 3. 2. Some of the upgrades are just not useful. For example, increased movement speed, or anything that involves boosting, would just make me more likely to crash. 3. All of the locations I can visit feel about the same. It would be nice if each had unique rules.
