There are many prepositions in British English. They can be quite different – they can consist of one or more words, some of them may be old, some words are borrowed into Old English from Old Norse, Latin, and Greek but as the language is constantly evolving, new prepositions are added over time. And therefore, the topic of prepositions is one of the most difficult and confusing. Choosing the right preposition is not an easy task, because prepositions in British English have their own specifics and almost always do not coincide in meaning with prepositions in other languages. Even British and American English have differences, especially phrasal verb usage. There are also stable constructions with prepositions. For example, everyone knows phrasal verbs that cannot be translated and used literally.
Therefore, to help you understand English prepositions and their grammar, we have created our application. A feature of his learning principle is the study of prepositions within sentences. This method helps to assimilate prepositions better, because the choice of a preposition and its meaning very often depends on the context. And different parts of speech may require different prepositions depending on the other words and the meaning of the sentence.
In our application, you can learn prepositions based on passages from real articles and passages from books. You choose from the option that you like and proceed to the assignments.
You will be presented with an excerpt in the form of several sentences with a missing preposition and answer options. You must choose the preposition that should be used in this case and choose the correct answer. After the correct answer, you will immediately proceed to the next task.
This kind of tasks makes it possible to see the use of prepositions in real context and you can see the real conditions of its use. Also, in this way you can not only improve the grammar of the English language, but also replenish your vocabulary with new fixed expressions and phrasal verbs.
