I remember buying the whole collection of these books as a child. I would love (and be happy to pay) for the whole collection again digital. This and not having a dark mode for reading are the only things stopping a 5 star review. More more more!
Nostalgia Classic
Even the free one si a good reas
HUGE MISTAKE! No transfer of already purchased books in old format
Dear Tin Man Games,
I am literally IN LOVE with your work and your fantastic digital adaptations (almost all of which I have purchased) of our beloved paper GameBooks. Together with Inkle Developers you made the dream of GameBook lovers come true... but...
After releasing this new “Library App” (to collect all your Digital Interactive GameBooks in one single App) you surprisingly declared in your Website Blog that users who already purchased your digital GameBooks in the old format (separate individual Apps) will NOT have them transferred to this new Library App with the new engine (without even explaining why) ... astonishingly implying that we will have no choice but to have your collection hopelessly divided in two separate formats:
- some of your collection (your already purchased GameBooks) in individual Apps tidily organized in an iPhone Folder (which for us wasn’t absolutely a problem, that’s what iPhone folders are for, to orderly group Collections) with the old engine.
- and some inside your new Library App, there downloadable as In-App purchases, with the new engine
HUGE BUSINESS MISTAKE...You must be surely aware that nobody likes to have Book collections irreversibly separated in 2 formats/storages and that, most importantly, now we strongly suspect that when a future new third format comes out from you, you very likely will tell us again that Books purchased in the the old formats (including in this current Library App) won’t be transferred...
I strongly suggest you to figure out a way (is it really that hard, considering the consequences?) to allow users to download in this new Library App the already purchases old-format Books or you must surely be aware that VERY FEW of us will ever trust you in purchasing any of your great work again (old or new engine) knowing that you don’t mind us having your collection fragmented into 2 or more storage formats. Please don’t lose our trust forever with a bad business decision.
ps
Migrations apart, for the majority of users is much more preferred storage of individual BookApps in a Smarphone folders than inside a “Developer restricted” Library App since the first allows us to create “Themed Folders” and, most importantly, allows to include GameBooks from other Developers... most of us preferred the individual Apps system and the direction you are taking is definitely not seen as an improvement by the community.
Superb
I had these in the 1980s as a kid and not only re-lived the excitement (and frustrations) but so great they kept the original top notch illustrations! Excellent job
Good but no option to clear map
Great nostalgia trip and looking forward to more books to be included like Scorpion Swamp and Midnight Rogue. My only gripe is that there doesn’t appear to be an option for clearing the map of a book you have already read so either myself or a family member can have a fresh adventure.
Thank goodness for the free play mode
Firstly, I wish to express condolences to the app makers and the community for the recent passing of Russ Nicholson. His illustrations helped practically define the fighting fantasy books with his vibrant and captivating images, both capturing the grimness of the fantasy world depicted as well as illustrating the worlds the player was launched in crystal clear detail.
Onto the app itself- I enjoy the series very much having recently brought a few copies and played through them. I don’t have the time or energy to scribble and write down stats these days, and so I’m glad that on the app, there is the free read mode that lets you re-roll, as well as the jostling dice physics to keep flipping over the dice until you reach the number you want. Sometimes I just want to see what happens in the story and not be screwed just because I didn’t have the one item I needed because I turned left instead of right at a junction and so forth. That would be the only downside to the gamebooks I say.
I see that the app is updating with more releases and so I have one request, or two- could you add howl of the werewolf and sword of the samurai? Sword of the samurai is the only book I ever completed properly, and howl of the werewolf is no longer in print and is so rare and expensively sold by second hand price gougers that I can’t get a hold of it.
Otherwise, a very enjoyable app and good fun. An unexpected treat brought to my attention thanks to the group on Facebook.
Fighting fantasy
I loved these books as a kid. They are great to relive. Would have given five stars except they have only 14 books. Why not upload some more books?
Gold in Warlock of Firetop Mountain
I love the presentation in FF Classics of the books. Like others I'm was a disappointed that I've had to rebuy individual titles bcos previous near-identical apps no longer run. I was playing Warlock of Firetop Mountain live on stream and there seemed to have a problem with the gold pieces not being recorded on the sheet or in memory, thus taking away all options to use gold within the game - frustrating and game breaking (when playing medium Adventurer difficulty where options are controlled). Please fix this! ( iOS 15.7.1 iPad Pro)
Fighting Fantasy Collection
I love these gamebooks when I was younger first editions (showing my age) and then finding out you can download them on to your iPhone was like heaven. I have purchased some single books on here and still have them but some have been taken off the Tin Man Games list. My question is will there be more games added to the classics collection?
