I studied Spanish in Jr High school and college and never gained the ability to hold a conversation. Pimsleur, Michele Thomas, Duolingo, and Rosetta Stone didn’t fit the bill either. The big difference maker is the ability to control the vocabulary and image I want to help remember it. along with the study interval and coaching I am now able to hold conversations in Spanish!
This is the best language learning tool I’ve come across. I recommend reading the book to understand the science behind it but I believe it works. I have used other resources which are also useful and great but if I could only use 1 it would be this.
I was really looking forward to using this app after reading and loving the book, but sadly they need to work on bugs and UX. There are some good features in there but I ultimately gave it only 1 star because after paying for a subscription, the Pro features were never unlocked. I did some debugging myself and I reached out to support twice but never heard back. They stole my money and set me back in my study goals. Sad!
This app subtly combines multiple aspects of learning and memorizing language. It has become one, if not the, fundamental tool for me to learn, memorize and integrate new vocabulary.
I love the Fluent Forever app and method! In my opinion, it’s better for retention than Duolingo or Babbel. My only complaints are that it takes a bit of effort to get started and the selection of languages is limited. Hopefully they can incorporate some gen AI features to make it easier to start up a new language.
I have been following the Fluent Forever journey since I read the book years ago. The app is strong and getting stronger. The poor reviews are from when the app was starting out, but I think they have really improved this into a strong system What I love: - The focus on proper pronunciation (I hate learning something wrong from the beginning only to be forced to relearn it later - The limited use of translation - The new features being added, especially the Quick Chats - The repetition method of the cards to push words into your long term memory (I was able to hear and understand the language/words before I could speak or write phrases or sentences) What I like - The accountability and reminders - The new-ish features to add your own cards but every now and then I get encounter bugs with this - The premade word lists gives you 80% or more high frequency words What I dislike(d) - It takes too long before you start getting phrases you might actually use in conversation (this is changing for the better with the new Quick Chats) - Certain groups of words could be more grouped like numbers or abstract words since some of these just need memorization rather picture association I recommend this method for those wanting to be able to get an authentic learning experience rather than just get an English pronunciation of Italian words and phrases. You need to be comfortable with an always improving app as opposed to an app that has its set limited features but does them well consistently.
I have recommended this to anyone who wants to learn another language. I spent 4 years in Spanish classes between middle and high school, but in 6 months I learned more than all those years combined. The flash card method really helps the information stick. I now listen to podcasts in Spanish and am getting more comfortable starting to speak it with coworkers and friends. I couldn’t recommend it enough.
I really like the idea of the app and the logic behind it. However, I find the sentences old school and not relevant to my life. Also oftentimes they are not inclusive about women and lgbtq folks. I wish there was a function to either come up with my own sentences or at least choose topics. I couldn’t even find sentences with the word tango or bailar. Which is quite basic. But maybe my app didn’t work. I like the word count feature and the level. And I was always writing the sentences on my own, not just speaking them out loud. Was fun but I do want something more up to date and more adjustable to my vocabulary.
Great app…getting correct pronunciation down is crucial to becoming fluent. I recommend this app.
