Fonus

I am a more than 2 years customer of Fonus mobile living half of my time outside of the country. This app used to be very bad: calls dropped or with a lag so intense that it was so embarrassing talking to somebody more than 5 mins. So fonus used to be only good for unlimited internet connection but very bad for calls. Now since December 2022, the calls are without any noticeable lags. It really feels like any other phone lines. And the internet is still very good. The only drawback is that you cannot respond to a short number sms. Like +21165 let say. I invented the number for explanation, do not try it :D So without replying support for short numbers sms you cannot reply AGREE to your bank or services that use them. Customer support is not stellar but ok. So verdict : 4 stars for seamless calls and good internet. -1 star for short number reply support. For the price, there is virtually no competition. I recommend it

Super nice and responsive customer service, app needs to get smoother though, like the TextNow app for example. Sometimes the Fonus app is so buggy that I have to use TextNow although I would prefer using Fonus.

Very poor quality line drops loss calls, signal strength, the bottom quarter of any cell signal.

The app hasn’t worked since I signed in

There are a few differences to using a regular mobile phone companies services but all in all.. After a challenging set up.. It was a great alternative for the bills i was paying for mobile phone with data. I needed an international phone and this fits the bill with the data plan Unlimited that i got for $35/mth USD.. However.. A tornado took down a mobile phone tower by my rural home and ever since then the service of spotty but that's not the fault of Fonus. Before that it was working great. hoping it will go back after the Roger's tower is replaced.

This is the best customer service I have seen in years. They answer email within minutes, and there chat service is amazing. I would highly recommend Fonus to anyone in Canada. Martin

The data itself is fine and the service had a lot of potential. Ruined by the app experience. Text messages frequently show up in notifications but not in the app and the only way to fix it is to reinstall app and resume messages.

I recommend this service to everyone in Canada, specially we’re paying to our Cell Phone very high bills and we don’t have too much choice. Over here you will get a great unlimited plan with a very reasonable price 👌🏻

Been trying to set up for a month now. Many weird steps, staff with poor English skills and even one was straight up rude trying to help me set it up. But if the price really does cover everything then I suppose it’s worth it lol.

In theory this is what all mobile plans should be. A reasonable price for unlimited everything and almost worldwide calling. In practice… wow, not so much. You won’t be able to use your phones native phone app or messaging app. Everything has to go through their app. Their app is juvenile at best. Once you talk to 3 or 4 of their insanely rude customer service reps you may get it working. You have to download a ‘profile’ onto your phone, enable permissions for some things and if you have more than one phone number good luck. And what ever you do, don’t let your phone update or you will end up having to redo everything. Calls drop constantly, messages get lost and when you need them to fix something expect to need to contact them several times and be told things like “I’m an engineer and that just doesn’t happen.” While you are literally staring at the exact issue the arrogant idiots are telling you doesn’t happen. I finally reached the breaking point, ordered a new sim form another provider I like and attempted to port my number out. With most companies this takes 3-5 minutes. That was friday. This is sunday. 5 attempts later were still waiting. The company I’m moving too is great, trying everything under the sun. Fonus. “We dont deny it, talk to them.” “There is no one in from that department today so you will just have to wait.” “We don’t have a phone number for you to speak to that department.” “It should take a day.” “It should take 4 hours max.” “It could take a week.” Mind you this is after I sent a copy and past of the info they gave me to ensure the port goes smoothly. Had they done their jobs I would have been ported 1 day before my cycle ended. Mysteriously all these issues and unfortunately I’m into a new billing cycle. So they get another months money already. STAY CLEAR unless you LOVE STRESS!!!
