Testament to Arcade & Phone Games
Just a brilliantly executed simple game. The quality of phone games on the whole is just pitiful and falls so flat of the role of “handheld killer” iPhone was supposed to fill over a decade ago. This is a perfect demonstration of how the simplicity and ease of traditional arcade games translate so naturally to mobile. Its influences are as opaque as they are invisible, and each tiny design choice makes it all the more addicting. The physics do exactly what they need to. As I can best explain, it’s like if flappy bird was meta knight after executing his up+b in smash brawl just moving forward with whatever downward momentum you can throw upwards and whatever you throw upwards outwards. The actual display is only a pixelated line within cave-like patterns. There are two buttons that angle you upward or downward, which add challenge and depth by means of their implementation. It makes a good run even more satisfying when you’re overcoming the limitations of your control. Absolutely underrated and so glad I have this on my phone. One of a handful of iPhone games actually worth playing
