Globetrotter app fails to meet the expectations Its limited destination coverage, incomplete information, lackluster interface, and restricted functionality all contribute to a un-superior user experience. Combining this with the forced subscription coupled with the lack of value for money further diminish the app's appeal. For that mainly, I cannot recommend the Globetrotter app as a reliable or worthwhile companion for travelers. I understand this is a app is by a small developer and they need money somehow, still.
Edit: It still is a poor quality app with barely any useable features.
Good Idea, Bad app
Downloaded and the first think I see is is a paywall subscription, No way to even skip it, very annoying and unnecessary.
2 stars because this app is a good idea
Cool App; Disappointing Onboarding
I found the onboarding experience to be incredibly frustrating and borderline deceptive (even though I am giving the developer the benefit of the doubt that it wasn’t their intention). What I would have appreciated is if the payment screen included a fourth option that was clearly labeled as a free trial instead of grouping the free trial with selecting a monthly or yearly subscription. I went down the yearly route and immediately cancelled the subscription and deleted the app and still managed to get charged.
The app overall looks good and it’s very close to being perfect for me, but I feel like the app could benefit from addition UX review. The app isn’t difficult to understand or navigate per se, but it isn’t particularly intuitive either and I felt like I was always tapping on random UI elements to eventually get where I wanted to go in the interface.
missing a good start
when I was using the app, I didn't experienced a good start. all the content was behind a paywall also a 3-day free trial is not enough for such an app! I want to have at least a week for testing it then decide if I wanna actually pay or not. hope you also offer a freemium use soon. thanks! 2 star for good screenshots only👍
Love the idea but not for $20/yr
Great idea, beautiful design. Even though I travel a lot, it’s not worth $20/year. I’d cheerfully pay $20 once.
After initial onboarding, there needs to be a rescan feature. The app shows me as having visited some countries I didn’t visit because of incorrect geotags, and it missed some countries that should’ve been included but were apparently skipped.
Also, Puerto Rico shouldn’t be shown as a separate country.
Unskippable subscription screen
This may be a great app. But it requires you to subscribe before you can even try it out, so I deleted it before I even got a chance to try it. I have no problem paying a subscription for an app that I find useful, but it seems scammy and borderline unethical to force me to subscribe before I can even try it out. This kind of thing seems intentionally designed to trick people into subscribing and/or forgetting to cancel their subscription. I hope the developer rethinks this design choice. It seemed like an app I might even be willing to pay for, but I just can’t support an app that operates like this.
Great bones! Onboarding could use refinement.
I see a ton of potential in this app, it’s really well designed and feels right at home on iOS.
However the onboarding flow could use a little bit of refinement, which is likely what caused the current 1 star reviews:
The paywall is displayed before I’ve ever had a chance to look at the app. It’s too early for me to decide if I’m going to pay, I don’t even know what I’m paying for yet! Yes, the monthly subscription does feature a 7 day free trial which would allow me to try it out and then cancel - But that comes with a burden on me to remember to cancel.
I would recommend the developer explore ways to allow a brief exploration of the app, for example showing me the app UI, but with dummy data, before then prompting me to choose if I’m going to pay for it.
Beautiful but overpriced
The app’s design is amazing and conforms well to Apple’s human interface guidelines. It’s a cool concept, and I would pay for it, but a subscription for an app with no true utility is not worth it, and the lifetime purchase is too expensive for an app that doesn’t help you plan your trips or anything. The app says in its welcome sequence that it doesn’t use any third-party APIs, so there is really no excuse for the high cost.
Bring a breath of fresh air to your photos
My photo library is my journal and this app is a fantastic way to relive them and the trips I’ve taken. A rare privacy prioritising app that delivers a first class native experience, I’ll gladly support it and subscribe
