Great idea, but misleading at a glance
Apples to apples comparisons sound great, but who is actually going to consume 2/3 that box of bran cereal in one day to reach the dangerous 20g sugar that the app warns us about? If a single serving has barely more than 3g of sugar, it shouldn't be red lighted. The fact is, you can't make apples to apples comparisons between apples and rice, or oranges and cereal, or nuts and celery.
