Hum

I've actually tried quite a few apps and none are as simple as Hum. I use this 1) to quickly get an idea down in case I wake up in the middle of the night with a guitar riff, and 2) as a place to work on lyrics for tracks. Even though this doesn't necessarily work any differently from voice memos or notes, I like having this as a dedicated go-to music app. I find that ideas in voice memos usually don't go anywhere there whereas in Hum, I can give it a name and come back to it later and jot down some lyrics if they come to me. All in all, it's simple and it works. No complaints. Would give six stars if it included a thyming dictionary while I typed like the "Rhymers Block" app. Thanks guys.

I can’t believe I bought this app without getting more information first. You cannot even edit the song you either save it or delete it which is not even as good as the default app on the iPhone. As for the musical features, for somebody who’s only just starting with music theory it is useless and too complicated for me. I thought they would be at least the musical tones of the note to help you compose but there’s no sound at all.If it if it becomes possible to edit the audio file I will up my rating.

I was a huge fan of this app for years. It was my primary way to write songs. But recently I find files will revert as I'm editing them. It's frustrating to write an entire paragraph only to have it vanish at random.

Great app! If it had an option for multiple recordings per song idea then it'd be perfect

Very helpful app. It could use some more features such as a system of writing down chords more easily, and perhaps more than one recording spot per song. Overall a very cool app that has a ton of potential.

Guys, Guys this is a great app, please I am number 1 reviewing this app, you guys are making my songwriting so much easier with this app... The App works Perfect and is the best for what it does... Now the only thing i would like to see in the next update is the possibility to make multiple voice recording "Hums" under one song, this way i can write lets say the Verse and Hum, record the verse idea and move onto the chorus etc... And been able to record each time like this if you got a melody you can record it and then comeback to it and write it or vise versa! Thank you guys... love your App, which just replaced my Voice Memos App! Keep Up the Great Work!

It’s great cuz it’s easy to use and certain features make it great… If your phone is in low battery mode it won’t go dark where the app is running. Also it takes up much less memory on your phone than voice recordings. I also use it to send songs I’ve written via email to myself and friends. The quality is as good as can get for phone recording. The app has been crashing within 30 seconds of being opened. This is consistently happening until I turn Dropbox sync off. The app works without it, but I’m concerned about not having my work backed up, and also not sure how I’m going to move hundreds of song ideas from this phone the new one I want to buy, without the Dropbox functionality. Currently looking for a new songwriting app solution until the dev is able to address the sync issue. I emailed them a couple of times over the last week but received no reply, so I’m not hopeful at the moment.

So I lost a lot of song ideas on my iPad. Big deal? Huge deal. I loved this app. And maybe I can recover my files from a backup, but I doubt it (for technical reasons I won’t get into). If Hum doesn’t support iPad, then finding out by losing files shows a lack of transparency for an app meant to STORE DATA. HUM is only capable of storing data from ONE device? Did I miss the warnings? And the file names in Dropbox are “code” not the titles, like the ones Hum assigns when you fail to type a title. Not only THAT, audio goes to one folder and text to another. Not only that, but don’t change anything in Dropbox or you may screw it all up. Maybe I missed the warnings. Except I didn’t. Granted, you can save any given file however you want, one-by-one. But why bother when you get Dropbox, mostly to sync your numerous recordings? I love Hum, but one more complaint: is it me or did the sound quality drop from iPhone 7+ to 13? Sloppy.
