Hungryroot: Healthy Groceries

Stop insisting on using FedEx. The company is falling apart and can’t make their deliveries in time for the food to still be good.

Hungry Root is great and by far much better in my opinion than Every Plate and Hello Fresh…. My only complaint is that when you are trying to diet there isn’t a lot of tasty choices. I also think it could stand to be a bit cheaper as it is kinda pricy to pay approx $115 for 5 meals for 2 people… it’s like $12 per person per meal and we usually have to add to it either a salad or a second side item as it is small portions. But all that said, the food is easy prep and fairly quickly prepared, foods don’t go bad after 2-3 days like I experienced with hello fresh and with every plate.

My Hungryroot delivery is once again TWO DAYS LATE, for the second time in a row, and when I try to resolve this via the terrible chatbot, I get stuck in a circular loop — there is no way to escalate my request that I can tell. I think OnTrac - the delivery provider- might be the problem, but the responsibility for ensuring customers get their food on time belongs to Hungryroot. The whole point of signing up for this awful service was to simplify meal planning and reduce food costs. But I had to order takeout yesterday and buy groceries today because I had nothing to eat. If and when the delivery arrives, I’m going to request a refund for anything that’s spoiled and cancel my subscription. Super disappointing!

The actual food service is just okay, but the system is terrible. Every time it’s time to approve or correct an order oddly the app cannot connect with the server meaning I continue to get things I would have chosen to avoid. When a shipment doesn’t show up, you have to use text or a whole other company to make a claim and can only do so via text. It’s either very shady or just poorly run.

Every time I reopen this app to access the recipe I am making, I get a prompt to rate a previous recipe. This is so irritating. Please make it stop.

Hungryroot is the second meal delivery service I’ve used, and when it works, it was much better for my needs than Hello Fresh was. The recipes are customizable, which is important because we’re a family of three, and when every meal has four very large servings, the leftovers can get out of hand. I also appreciate the faster recipes and the ability to get separate groceries. However, that’s if you get your delivery. Too many times, my delivery has been over a day late (with melted ice packs and frozen vegetables), or it hasn’t arrived at all. It’s not convenient if you have to get takeout or go to the grocery store to make up for what didn’t arrive. I understand that things happen, but this has been a frequent occurrence. I can’t recommend this service.

I love the meals you send. They’re easy to make, varied, and delicious! Because it’s only me, I only order every other week and it works out perfectly.

For feedback, I really disliked the credit system. I prefer to see the prices of items in real dollars and cents. It’s similar to games using in-game currency like “coins” that you have to convert from real money. Companies do this because it hides the true cost and is a deceptive psychology trick. I don’t need that in my grocery buying.

I’ve tried every meal delivery company and always stop but Hungryroot is different. I get much healthier foods, don’t need to do groceries separately and the meals are restaurant quality (but half the calories). Thank you Hungryroot!!
