Useful but flawed
Some incredibly useful features like the transposable jazz charts. However very confusing to use with non-standard user interface and all sorts of odd behaviours. Not helped by ugly interface.

This app is the reason I bought an iPad. It is easy to load charts from my laptop via iTunes. Once loaded it was quick to select charts into a set list for a gig, and apart from one drawback listed below, it was slick emailing everything to band members when I had finished. My set list was a mix of scanned charts and typed lyric/chord charts that I saved as PDFs. I had been a bit worried about the screen size being a bit smaller than A4, but the clear bright screen compensated for that. Just make sure you don't use a small font size; I would recommend at least size 14 font. Courier works better than more modern fonts. Also, making chord names bold helps them stand out from the lyrics. Although all of the above is sufficient for me to be delighted with this purchase, There are two things that haven't worked well: 1. I was delighted to find 1200 transposable charts were included with the app. However when I included some of these in a set list, they didn't email to band members. Maybe they don't save as true PDFs. If I could overcome this limitation it would greatly improve the value of the app. 2. One of the best features of this app has a bug. After forming a setlist for a gig, the app allows me to email the charts to my band members. However, it only attaches the first page of each chart: MAJOR DRAWBACK; PLEASE FIX.
iGigBook is a great tool for jazz musicians, and anyone who can benefit from a lead-sheet organizer/indexing app. The ability to search by song title and composer is very convenient for song research and jam sessions.
If you are tired of being burdened carrying a lot of fake books and want to clear up space on your bookshelf this the app for you. Perfect for practice and performance. IGig Book does more than I am able to describe. Once you use it you will never want to be without it.
iGigbooks has allowed me to resolve many problems encountered by all musicians. I can play more requests, practice anywhere I can bring my iPad, be better prepared for Rehearsals, and so much more. iGigbooks goes where my horn goes!!
I love iGig Book. It’s an amazing app. I can search for authors, songs or just drop into the fake book I want and have at it. It takes a bit to get it all set up but the on line tutorials really help dial it in. It has notes you can leave, it has a metronome and more. And most all of the fake books can be found and downloaded FREE on line!
The built in fake book indexes work well. You have to find the fake book pdfs yourself same you may have to make adjustments using the offset function. So far I have the Real Book vol 1 6th edition and the New Real Book vol 1. Highly recommended!
The only support I get is “ use this link”.
I was lucky to find this app early in its development. I’ve never looked back. Phil continues to add features. There’s simply nothing n]better out there for the practicing or gigging jazz musician.
I give this app a 5 Star Rating! It is a tremendous data base for reference purposes, this app is an indispensable tool for all my charts and musical arrangements. I depend on it for so many things that I would be totally lost without it. I use it extensively on all my gigs. It gets better all the time!
