iMPC Pro 2

I was thinking of buying a real hardware MPC. In order to learn the workflow I purchased iMPC Pro 2 and started working on my first project. After about an hour’s work, the app suddenly crashed. When I relaunched it, I discovered that only some of my work was auto saved. About 80% of my work had disappeared. On the iPad that should not be the case. What a bummer to lose all my hard work. It seems there is no auto save, despite the fact that this app seems unstable. Really disappointed.

I’ve been looking for ages for a sampler I can use for chopped loops to use in my hardware synth setup. I was hoping to use this on my iPad Pro and UAD volt audio interface. Midi is coming in from my Cirklon to the volt and audio goes to the mixer from the volt. It looks like a great piece of software and is likely great when used in the standalone way they designed it but when triggered from hardware sequencers the midi to audio latency is poor. The audio just lags behind the other external sounds. I wish there was a setting where you could drop the buffer size to see if it behaves better but there isn’t. Damn. I had high hopes for this but it was a waste of money for me. For others in my position it’s worth noting the only external midi that’s assignable is note number and midi channel to the pads (which was all I really needed but filter and effects cc would have been nice).

This was my go to, but AudioCopy being the only way to use imported files is finished. PLEASE change this as via the reviews this has been an issue for a long time

I can't believe how bad the Akai iMPC Pro app is on my iPad Pro. I'm switching to MusicMaker 3.

…but didn’t live up to expectation. Basically, you can add sounds from Spotify, Apple Music and their own chargeable sample packs. That’s it. It’s a REAL headache to access any other audio files. It takes full advantage of the iOS sandbox environment to maximise revenue by selling you its own sample packs and limit access to anything else. This could have been so good, but I just go back to hardware. Much more flexible and fun. Don’t waste your time with it

The features list Expert MIDI support but MIDI sync and any sort of output seems not possible. My iRig is listed in both Input and Output sections of the MIDI settings menu but there seems no way to select it as a output in a track. Would also like to have MIDI sync so can start stop ext drum machines, bass synths, etc.

Was toying downloading this app. Was interested in using tracks out of my (vast) iTunes library to build some sample based music. I own an Akai Force so thought “hey this’ll be great”. Then noticed it’s in the sale. No brainier really. Loaded it up. Love the turntable feature. Got a sample into the first pad. Fantastic. Not learnt how to loop it yet but I’m sure that’ll come. Loaded another sample. A nice 70’s soul funk beat. Edited. Wow. I thought this is a doddle. I’m the new DJ Shadow. Then it crashed. Yeah first go. Come on. First go? Ok back to Korg Gadget I go.

Love using this app with the Mk Mini MK3, only issue I am having is the chorus settings on the fx page are all jumbled up on my iPad Pro 12.9 gen 1. The only setting I can change is the rate, and I suspect the control knobs aren’t in the right place. Please fix, as I am a new fan on MPC workflow, but would like to take advantage of the full capabilities of the software. Love the great stuff akai are putting out at the moment.

I love this app due to it allowing me to feel like I’m getting an mpc experience for a fraction of the price, however the countless bugs and glitches make it really hard to fully utilise. For example, just today I’ve had a bar where the sample just doesn’t play for some reason (despite it being unmuted and on the timeline), another sample that doesn’t play every time when I press it (making it impossible to drum with) and just many other issues that really hold this back from being what it could. Finally, the sampling feature with Spotify is great... except you only get a 30 second interval that’s randomly picked to choose from and also the search feature doesn’t fully work there but a song can still be sampled if it’s in a playlist. Overall I want to love this app, I really do but it’s so frustrating to use with the constant minor bugs and issues that should’ve been fixed long ago.
