Selling the data we provide back to us
A bit cheeky as this app has all its data provided by us for free. I understand there are costs involved but a simple request for cash would have raised more in donations than this. Sad.

I’ll stick with the old version the only benefit I can see with the new one is offline maps which is not worth $100 a year. Or though iOverlander is great it's not worth that much not when there are over apps for free camp sites and google for everything else. In fact, at least with Google, you can download local offline maps for free. Shame it's so over priced as the old version is great. I’ll be deleting iOverlander2 from my phone as it’s useless with out paying for it.
Have to agree with others here: developers: this won’t work. As others have said, the data you trying to sell to the users was created by the users! Collecting it and flogging it back to them is just wrong. The app has been shabby for as long as I can remember, so give it up a facelift (not working here on my ipad, seems iPhone only sadly), let it develop into a decent app for a bit, and then invite donations to support the community-driven app, or make a charge for something extra THAT ISN’T THE DATA THEY’VE PROVIDED IN THE FIRST PLACE! No-one gave it to you to sell; they gave it to help other travellers, so please: what you’re trying to do won’t work and is offensive to contributors. If you rethink and do something reasonable, these reviews can be deleted.
Considering the entire database and all of the info on overlander is community added and generated, and the only service you’re effectively providing is the maps - which are open source so it’s not like you are paying for them anyway, I find it a really unethical and a spit in the face of all the users that have contributed to the database that you’re now trying to charge £100 a year for that. Yet another great project getting ruined by greed. A small charge to generate some profit for you and cover the costs - sure. A £100? Distastefully greedy.
I deleted this app as soon as they wanted £100 a year. Don’t bother downloading it as it’s useless unless you want to pay an extortionate amount every year.
This app is terrible the original one is way better. This app makes you download different areas when looking for sites and then it’s confusing to actually see what you downloaded. If I could give this zero stars I would.
I only downloaded this because I downloaded the original version and it recommended I download this newer version, however, it doesn’t show me anything! I have toggled all of the filters, tried changing location just for it to show me something, but nothing…. I like the older version better.
Yes, I will agree, It’s a little different from the first version but I love this new version once you get into it and learn it (which did take a little bit at first). We traveled 200 nights in this year (2024) and 100 of them (approximately) were Boondocking - I found almost all of them on this app. It’s so easy to see where the location is, what the reviews say about it, and the photos really help.
Useless
We’ve been traveling full time in a bus for nearly 2 years and iOverlander was my go-to for places to stay. Loved it, recommended it to everyone. Then the update to this atrocity came. I hate this thing. All the ads make it look cheap and trashy, the subscriptions are out of this world pricey, and it’s a headache to use. Crossing state lines on a road trip and using the free version where you can only download one state at a time makes it impossible. It’s so much harder to navigate the app. I’ve been ignoring this and using my OG iOverlander. Can it be that the people who want bells & whistles can pay for this fancy new one and those of us that don’t want that can keep the old version? Not gonna lie, when the old one shuts down I’ll probably delete both of these. I’m relieved to see this one rated so poorly next to the original because it means I’m not just a hater, this app is worse.
