Kaala is a web 3.0 payments app that allows you to instantly send and receive money both locally and internationally at near-zero rates; all you need to get started is a phone number! It is built on next-gen blockchain technology and mobile-focused cryptocurrency infrastructure to ensure that your payment experience is easy and hassle-free.
Kaala is built on the carbon-negative Celo blockchain. Your balance is stored in Celo dollars (cUSD) stablecoin in order to unlock the full potential and features of digital money management. This is how we are able to promise - and deliver - unlimited and secure instant cross-border payments from anywhere and at any time.
Kaala started under the umbrella of Mozilla Labs with the dream of building a payments app that gives you easy access to your money using all the advanced features of blockchain technology and DeFi. Unlimited local and international payments: Kaala offers free local money transfers and the lowest cross-border rates on international transactions, so you’re free to take full advantage of unlimited transactions to anyone anywhere in seconds.
Have complete control over your self-custodial wallet: Kaala is self-custodial, which means you are the only one in control of your funds. So you - and only you - have absolute control over your data and money. Nobody else.
Near-zero fees on payments and money transfers: Kaala doesn’t charge any fixed fees on transactions, so you can send or receive funds from friends and family without breaking the bank (pun intended), for as little as 0.01 USD. That’s one big advantage of using stablecoins (Celo dollars or cUSD) to store value.
Easy onboarding with just your phone number: Since Kaala is built on the Celo blockchain, all you need to get started is a compatible mobile device and a phone number. When using the app, you never have to deal with long crypto wallet addresses.
Additional privacy and security features: Aside from the security and privacy advantages that are built into Celo blockchain, Kaala also utilizes advanced encryption and fraud prevention technologies. The app also requires you to create backups of your wallet and allows you to cancel erroneous transactions.
