• "I fostered a lifelong love for the adventure genre, culminating in a Purple Tentacle tattoo (Day of the Tentacle, duh) on my upper left arm. So I’ll be playing Lamplight City, too. Trust." - Rock, Paper, Shotgun
• "Overall, this game has a lot going for it, and I encourage you to check it out even if you’re not an adventure game buff." - Hey Poor Player
ABOUT THE GAME
The Gateway to Vespuccia, the City of Air and Light, Lamplight City - the thriving port city of New Bretagne is a beacon of progress and industrial advancement in the New World. Yet beneath the promises of a shining 19th-century future, the city rests upon foundations of poverty, class struggle, and crime.
For police detective turned private investigator Miles Fordham, Lamplight City's shadowy corners are just part of the territory. But with his former partner constantly speaking to him from beyond the grave, his grip on sanity is slowly loosening. Can Miles find justice for his clients and track down his partner's killer before his entire world comes apart?
Lamplight City is a detective adventure set in an alternate steampunk-ish "Victorian" past.

The atmosphere and setting are great…unfortunately the game consists simply of long winded conversations that have little bearing on the plot.
There really is not any problem solving, just moving from irrelevant conversation to irrelevant conversation. Only about 20% of the dislogue is useful and of that, only about another 20% is interesting.
Unfortunate as I’m a big fan of other games by the makers and folks involved in producing it. Was hoping for a steam punk Gabriel Knight…unfortunately got little more than a meandering script for a bad WB pilot…
I genuinely liked it
I definitely got stuck a few times and it was frustrating when I messed up one small thing and couldn’t finish the case her and there but the storyline was genuinely good. I wish this was a show ngl because the characters are well developed imo. If you like crime/detective narratives then I definitely recommend. (Definitely requires a solid amount of observation to get a good ending)
Missed the mark
I appreciate what they are trying to do, but I think this game misses its mark and gets bogged down in tedium. I love old style point and click adventure games, but this one has WAAAAY too much dialogue, and WAAAAY too many pointless hotspots that lead to more pointless dialogue. I also wish there was more of an inventory element. I had to put it down after a little while.
Exhausting, yet boring
I played this for maybe 30 minutes and found all of the social justice stuff to be exhausting. Perhaps that’s appealing to some, but many of us play games to escape reality. This game was just rapid fire, one talking point after another, rinse and repeat. Loved the other games by this developer but the preaching in this one was too painful to continue. Also, more importantly, it was really boring - just a bunch of talking. Deleted already and totally regret paying for it.
Lastly, this one shouldn’t be listed as 12+. Many of the mature themes are wholly inappropriate for tweens/younger teens.
Game breaking scripting error
Keep getting a “scripting error” when I try to proceed in the game during the early stages. Frustrating because I was really enjoying it up until then. Would not recommend purchasing this game until it gets updated.
A bit different from other point & click adventure.
The majority of the player input in this game is in choosing dialog options. You do pick up and use items, but you don’t really have a traditional inventory menu, or choose which items to use and when. For example, you may find a locked door, and later find the key, but to use the key you’ll just click the door again after getting the key. There aren’t many puzzles to solve, so it’s mostly dialog, and finding the clues to lead you to the right suspect. It is possible to accuse the wrong person and have them arrested, but with enough investigation it becomes clear who the right suspect is.
The story was okay, but the gameplay left me feeling more like I had watched it than played it.
Highly recommend
Amazing game. Excellent graphics. Reminiscent of the old Sierra games from the 90s PC. Easy to use UI.
Glitch in game
I loved this game until the last part (5) where it wouldn’t let me access the fire to translate the piece of paper. So frustrating! Tried restarting but still didn’t work.
So slow..
I love detective games, but this one was just too slow for me. I really tried to like it (since I paid $5 on it)... but the settings and characters are so plain and boring.
Grew on Me
Didn’t like it at first as there’s a TON of dialogue (twice as much as Thimbleweed Park or WOAM), and you can’t pause it, so if you have someone talking to you in your home, it'll cause issues… Not too much gameplay, but where it differs, and where it grew on me, is that you really can pick which suspect to accuse and get it both wrong and right, as well as how to approach certain conversations, and that does change the game. Yeah, I’d recommend it.
