Excellent App

Easy to use, and can do a space repetition traning , with move trainer, sometimes the app gets stuck in move trainer mode forcing to close the app and start again, annoying.

Has potential but fix the bugs!

Raizard on

When opening the app I expect to continue from where i stopped from last session but instead I am taken back to the start of the chapter! This is so annoying. Please fix asap!

Useful but a few bad bugs. Where’s aerosol?

It’s a great way to read a chess book and several publishers now have similar apps. The reading experience of the text is not great here compared to a Kindle as formatting is lost, text is bunched up, you can’t highlight text or bookmark your place. Apparently you can add notes. But the worst aspect of this app is it is just buggy when you come and go from the app and, sometimes, even just as you are scrolling through the text. It tends to leap around for no apparent reason and you loose your place in the text. Then relocating your position is just a hassle. The pop-up chessboard would be a lot more intuitive with a Hide button rather than a double tap of the text for only the cognoscenti to remove the board. The Book Store is an odd shambles with books appearing either grouped under publishers or as a giant, unordered list. Apparently they imagine readers wander into bookstores thinking, “Yes I was definitely in the mood for something by Mongoose Press, but my mood has changed and I’m fairly sure something by an an Independent will go better with my red wine.” Rather odd. Mostly you might expect ordering by topics or the skill level of the reader, Beginners’ Tactics, etc.

Not the whole

I would have given more than 3 stars, but I downloaded a book I paid for : Dvortesky's "Endgame Manual" and found that not all the book was downloaded. Ch1 Part 1 is missing. If I pay more than $20 for a whole book I expect to receive the whole book that not with parts of book missing! I think most people would agree. This has turned me off buying any more of the books they offer. If I pay for a whole book I expect to receive the whole book.

Great content, mediocre software

The content on this is every bit as good as chessable. I am currently working on my first purchase, "is this move safe". An excellent book. The problem is the software is difficult to use and very inefficient. For example, I always want to be in quiz mode, where the solutions are not shown. Sometimes for no reason, I am put into read mode, where the answers are shown. The only way to fix that is to scroll all the way up to the top of the course, which is already a fair distance, even though I'm still in chapter 1, press the quiz mode button, and then scroll all the way down to find where I was. I tried every other button, all of which are very unintuitive in my opinion as a former software developer, and there is no other way to do this. Also, when I reopen the software, it usually loses where I left off, and I have to go hunt for it. I would call chessable professional software, and this relatively amateurish.

One of a kind resource

Stucarius on

There are tons of things online. HOWEVER, only Forward Chess has the books we all depend on set up in a clean interactive way with all moves linked to a board so you can review as you read easily. It will greatly increase the speed you can get through books.

Best way to read chess books

Apelph on

The ability to click through moves and new quiz mode feature make this method of reading chess books superior to physical books, and I love physical books. The price tends to better here as well.

Best chess app

Ormaexea on

Probably the best chess app I have used in years. It allows you to go over books digitally if you do not have the GM vision many of us are lacking. Going through variations is a lot easier. So far I have not had any issues with any books. Strongly recommend as the book options are always growing.
