So far so good! I have several Latin resources that I desire to hear the Latin read aloud, so I hope this app will help with my pronunciation and understanding!
This app is actually amazing beacus the storys are really interesting and fun while teaching latin
As a student, it’s difficult to access material like this except for when latinists release it for free (which I don’t expect them to do of course!). But having an app with a very reasonable subscription and all these features is amazing. The value is absolutely worth it, especially with the ability to both read and listen.
I decided to look at this program for the free 3 day trial. I immediately realized it had almost nothing for students of ecclesiastical Latin. Within 20 minutes. I tried to cancel. I evoidently erroneously signed for the shortest subscription as it appeared that was the only way to look at the program. I was charged $9.99 and I don’t know how since I don’t use Apple Pay. Somehow they accessed my credit card info. Time to get a new card I guess. I complained and have still been charged for a month for something I only looked at for 20 minutes. Be careful of the limited offers on the App Store. This is the second time I have been charged for a subscription when I was using the free trial.
There is like one text that is open to read, everything else you have to pay the $100 membership.
I have known Daniel Pettersson for a number of years and have seen him demonstrate that he is a remarkably skilled scholar, reader, and speaker of Latin by any yardstick you choose. His Legentibus platform combines both the traditional tools that have been available online to the Latin student reader for some time (i.e. linked glossaries for each word and explanatory notes) with a high-quality audio transcript or performance of the text, read clearly and expressively but avoiding melodrama. A specialist might quarrel with some details of Daniel’s pronunciation, but the bottom line is that Daniel’s viva voce performance presents vowel quantities consistently and in a believable way. Scholars agree that Romain texts were written to be heard rather than read silently. Daniel has provided us and those we teach with a convincing and engaging text performance to hear and read at the same time. Other than participating in a Latin immersion workshop with highly skilled presenters, I can think of no better way to improve one’s sense of authentic Latin usage than to spend time every day with Daniel’s text performances.
This app makes learning Latin fun and possible. There are some classic texts and some brand new ones. Pugio Bruti, for instance, is a fantastic new Latin story. It’s so passionately thought out and so well constructed, that I think this could be a model for other foreign language learning apps.
I’m not one for reviews but this app is great. It does what it claims while surpassing expectations. Beautiful layout and great content!
This app is all you need to learn Latin, plus the pronunciation is excellent
