Same old stuff
Been using this for several months and am getting the same assortment of articles . Mostly directed to business people. I am a retired educator with many interests but none of them are business. Digging through my history and queue I can find something worthwhile. It would be great to have these upfront and daily instead of stuff for the corporate bros.
I’m so much smarter thanks to matter
This app has lured me away from twitter and I am so thankful for it
Disappointed
I’m a long-time Pocket user, but that product has really fallen off (GUI, reliability, voices, etc) so I’m looking for a new tool that’s similar to what Pocket used to be. I tried Matter, but wasn’t super impressed. The GUI is good, but no better than Instapaper (free). The summarization sounded promising, but didn’t work very well. The idea of managing my RSS feeds sounded great, but Matter couldn’t process half of the feeds I tried to set up. The product has potential but seems half-baked on the advanced functionality that I would actually pay for. So I guess I’ll use Instapaper for now.
Garbage
Cheap developers, bad design, trying to milk the crowd using subscriptions. Waste of time.
There is no free plan
After the 7-day free trial the options are:
$79.99/year
$14.99/month
It’s a pretty ok app, but I don’t like the lack of transparency or documentation.
No free option, $80 read it later app
Really annoyed by these psychological and statistically optimal onboarding procedures that ask you a million questions and make you create an account before they reveal that there is only a limited 7 day trial before you’re paying. I’m so over wasting my time with these apps that are so confident in themselves that they think there’s no way you’re not going to want to pay $80 a year because you can save what mark manson writes on any random day. I should have known when they didn’t have a pricing tab on their site. Also because it had apples “app of the day”, since they’re getting a share of every subscription, they’re gonna award it to pricey apps. They’re all out of touch, I’ll stick to my free castle player, omnivore, and news explorer apps which do the same thing.
Text to speech is broken
The highlighter is almost always out of place (let us turn it off). The voice often gets muted after pausing. It doesn’t work offline, so on airplanes you aren’t gonna read. Aside from this I love the app, but this is really important for me to work decently.
Possible Violation of iPhone accessibility feature
The app appears to disable iPhones spoken content accessibility feature, seemingly to incentivize you to purchase a subscription to use Matter’s text to speech. This seems to violate some disability rights. Other than that, phenomenal app and game changer
Beautiful reading app, just the cost...
I did the trial of this app and liked how it asked your interests and then provided you with articles that you would have never known about to read ontop of whatever you have forwarded into the app.
I also like that it challenges you to read daily or at least listen...yes, listen!
My only issue is the cost. For those of us who aren't in the workforce any longer and living on a budgef, but still want to keep up our mental sharpness by reading, it would be nice if there was another price option.
Patriarchy Reader
I guess it’s a good app but all the Read Something Wonderful suggestions and every writer in the Top Picks recommendations were men. Why?
