Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab

I use the app several times every day to identify a variety of birds that frequent my feeders. It’s a great app. You can identify the bird by voice, which I usually do, or by photo or just input what you see and the app will show you possibilities. Love it!

Most of the birds around me hang out in trees, so I hear them far more often than I see them. Merlin is amazing at telling me who’s singing.

Since downloading the app I’ve used it every single day, I love it. It’s very useful and informative and gives me something fun to do while hiking around my area. Unfortunately, often times while using the sound recording function, the app crashes and you have to reload the app in order to get it to work again. This mainly happens if during a recording no birds are heard or identified. The app still saves this recording however, and even after reloading the app and attempting to review the recording the app will freeze up again. This makes it difficult to identify birds that the app simply couldn’t hear clearly enough, and it’s disappointing to have to delete a recording you would have liked to have listened to again. Otherwise, the app is phenomenal, and I will likely be using it for years to come.

A marvel and a joy to use. It has started a new morning routine for me of drinking coffee outside with my neighborhood birds.

Truly one of the best community science apps available. It makes birding much more accessible for the casual birder.

I’ve only had the app for a few day, but so far it has been easy to use and I love knowing who is visiting my yard. 😊

Great app. Just got back from Costa Rica and it was used by everyone. The main issue I had is when doing a search by name. It kept on setting my location as Barbados. That was where I last used the app.

My father and I have spent countless good times together birding while using this app. It facilitates endless enjoyment.

Easy to use, well organized, helpful information

As a novice bird watcher, really more of an amateur naturalist, I know very little of the avian world. Merlin has sparked my interest in identifying birds by both their calls and looks. I use this app almost every day and am excited to keep learning!
