I’ve downloaded many spanish teaching apps, and this is the only app that i can fully recommend to anyone who wants to learn basic spanish. Unlike other apps, it explains how words and sentences are formed. You won’t just be memorizing words and phrases. For instance, when you encounter a new verb, you would know how to use it properly in different tenses. I’m gonna deduct a star though because of the quizzes. Especially in the latter chapters wherein the quizzes reeked of laziness. Imagine a timed question wherein the choices are all long sentences, and the only difference between the choices are the placement of accents, or a single different vowel. I’ve shown this to several native spanish speakers and they agreed because even they made mistakes! Also, take note that this app hasn’t been updated for years. Just pay for a month’s subscription then cancel your subscription immediately. As long as you finish all lessons after one month (145 total) these lessons will still be viewable even after the subscription lapses. Shame Mirai has stopped updating their language apps, their apps are very effective. I also learned basic french using their french app which is no longer available on the app store.
Good Info, SCAM payment structure
The app itself is pretty solid in offering the basics of the Spanish language. The payment structure stinks of a scam. If you are going to subscribe, pay for the one month, download all the lessons and cancel the subscription. I basically paid $100 for content I could have gotten for $6.99. I signed up for the 6 month subscription for $50 +tax which renews automatically. For those six months they have not added any additional classes yet they still charged me another $50 to renew . I had already finished all the lessons they had so basically they charged me $50 for nothing. If you are going to charge people for a monthly subscription then you should at least add lessons regularly otherwise just charge a one time fee or charge per unit. You can’t keep charging people every month for the same exact content for 6 plus months. And also a warning that the subscription will renew before charging would be more honest and will at lest give the customer an option to cancel the subscription.
UPDATE!!!
App needs update!!!
Wow
So I purchased this app at full price and they've updated it and now it is a pay as you go. The initial version was better. It allowed you to see all the sections that were being read out loud. Now the boxes before and after a whited out so I can ONLY see what is currently being read. Frustrating because you have to click back when before all you had to do was glance up to catch a word you maybe have missed. Also, it doesn't keep track of where you are. It is divided into chapters and each chapter has lessons but it's just really difficult to remember what chapter/section you left off on. I dont know. I'm looking for a new app at this point.
Great app
I've tried at least half a dozen or more apps for learning Spanish and this is by far my favorite one. It's easy to learn and very informative. Presents the information in a clear way.
Great for absolute beginners
This app begins with proper pronunciation, which is easily the most important part of learning a new language. It doesn't matter if you know words when your accent is so strong no one can understand what you are saying! Highly recommend this app for anyone starting out with the language.
Super helpful app
I finished the course on duolingo recently and still felt like I needed a lot more guidance, especially when it comes to understanding grammar as duolingo doesn't really explain anything...this course does a really good job of explaining things in detail- although I know most of the vocabulary and grammar already as I'm going through this, I didn't know all the why's for certain sentence structures. I had simply memorized the correct way to say something, but that doesn't help me when I need to figure out how to structure new sentences.
I really enjoy this app, I think it's good for beginners AND intermediate Spanish speakers. Totally worth the $
Abandonware?
No updates since July 2014. Dead website. Corporate website “News” section not updated since 2013. Yet they’re still offering to sell you subscriptions.
Pretty Good
I have been using this app for a while (6 months)but I can say I have had more fun learning Spanish with this app. Although this app initial installment version was much better, this version has proven useful. In addition it is a far better learning tool than the boring hours spent using the Rosetta Stone method. The other upside to using this economic learning tool it helps you to retain more by teaching you the finer points of this language. Incredible!
Pretty good
I like the format though one big gripe that I have is that the Spanish speaking woman talks too darn fast.
The hombre is perfect.
Additionally, I think they spent too much, a whole lesson, on Nationalities. I could have used a lot less of that.
All in all, I will continue to use it. I bought the 1st month subscription. I will see if I go beyond that.
