Incomprehensible?
There’s a list of options in ‘purchases’ but what do they actually mean, and what do they have that the basic app doesn’t already have?
Good, but could be so much better.
They’ve obviously given up on development of this. It’s stayed the same with no development for two years or more, and no updates for over a year. Shame as this could be so much better. It’s just too basic as it stands. No layers is a deal breaker. No visible spine, or even spine shadow (as you would see on a normal sketchbook) is also a big miss as it prevents it from feeling like opposing pages of a digital folding sketch book, just one large sketching space. Double tap for undo also a huge miss, as it is in trace. Also, no redo function. No canvas rotate, pita. No scales for the ruler, or protractor guide. And don’t even think about expecting a selection tool. Or for them to read a react to the suggestions page……there’s basic (even the ‘Pro’ version) and then there’s this. Close-ish, but definitely no cigar.
A growing trend on the App Store
You download. Your are required to enter your email address. Only then does it inform you there is a monthly charge. I can’t see anywhere on the App Store page any warning of this. It looks like a classic bait and switch scam. Now that we’ve learned that Apple extract 20-30% of the rental charge, we can expect more and more of this deceptive behaviour. I would have been perfectly happy to consider trying this app if they had been honest, but I deleted it immediately.
Just like a real notebook...
...but lacking in features specifically for digital use. Pros: - interchangeable page backgrounds - beautiful layout allows turning of pages just like a real notebook - variety of drawing, writing and collating tools Cons: - doesn’t integrate with Apple Pencil for switching between tools - no layers option for tracing or layering - no selection tool to move sketches or annotations round the page which means they need to be erased an rewritten or redrawn in their new location.
Started off good
The thing is this app works really well but i deleted it in a rage after it removed a full page of my writing for no reason. I never journal and the one time I do it deleted it all so don’t download this if u get mad over this stuff like me
Registration required to demo
What a pity that registration is required to launch the app even to demo it. I’d prefer to decide whether to register after demoing. I uninstalled the app.
A small gem
I love Journal and Board and I both find them so user friendly and just beautiful. I just downloaded Trace but did not have time to try it yet. The support team is super responsive and helpful. These apps just need some more small features to make it really big! Can’t wait.

Love it! Just wish I could make backups and not be paranoid abt losing everything.
Brilliant app
Wonderful journal app and superb response from team when I submitted a question. Great for notes, photos and drawings, I have used it for design notes and a travel journal. If I could access my journals on both iPhone and iPad it would be perfect!
