Love the app, the food diary, the goal setting, weight and waist tracking and all the helpful tips and motivation advice - if only there were more food items pre populated in the food diary , not everything is there but you can create custom items and save them as a favourite for reuse. Otherwise fantastic really feel so much healthier!
Good for experienced calorie counters
I believe this app is great if you have been calorie counting before and you know roughly the calories of the foods you usually eat because the search feature isn’t as good as paid apps such as nutra check but you can always work out the calories yourself.
However, for a free app I believe it’s user friendly and I am enjoying using it so far!
Low functioning compared to others
Whilst you are encouraged to save favourites, you cannot recall them. The food list is not a fit for purpose data base but a general internet search, results are vague. You constantly have look up calorie count else where to plug into this app, you might as well use an app that saves you the trouble and does both. The app invites you to add your activity but doesn’t offset it against your calorie count. I’m abandoning the use of this up.
Life changing
I am currently 3 and a half stone / 30 kg lost. A little bit more and I’ll be at my target weight. Calorie counting is hard hard work, boring but totally essential. This app is totally free, easy to use and very intuitive. I owe it a lot. You still have to sometimes get a pen paper and calculator and work out the calories yourself that’s just part of it - if you want to spend money on an app where you can scan the bar code fine. Ultimately you ought to be home cooking so you need to be adding up.
Thank you again to the app and its developers for literally changing my stars, I just didn’t think I’d ever lose the weight and now I finally have. So grateful.
Easy to follow
Never counted calories before, this app really helps you focus on what your eating and has healthy tips to keep you motivated.
Pointless
I don’t understand the point in having a calorie counting app for the UK if it doesn’t have any usual foods that you can buy at the supermarket. E.g Sainsbury’s pasta. That’s 10 minutes I’ll never get back again. It also recommended I had 1700 kcal per day! I’m 5ft 2 and that would usually cause weight gain!! So I think this app is wrong, pointless and worrying.
Works for me
Useful app, can help with weight loss if you stick with it. I’m using the food diary function. Good to have an app that isn’t full of ads and isn’t trying to sell you stuff.
Brilliant and effective
The NHS weight loss app is absolutely fab, it’s so easy to navigate and in my first week I lost 5lb which I’m thrilled about . The app set me at 1700 calories which is more than enough for the day . Just remember though kitchen scales are your friend weigh everything for your portions and you can’t go wrong. Track everything you even those little nibbles add up . For a free app this is honestly a great little app and also get in the habit of logging foods and drinks as soon as you are preparing them etc and the data is only as good as what you are logging so don’t kid your self be truthful about what you are eating and you will see great results if you stick to the calories and logging 👌
Great App
Only been using it a few weeks, however it’s easy to use and it’s already got me reviewing my eating habits in a good way.
It has articles to read and the ability to track your calories with a food diary.
Great idea, terrible user experience
I have got to the point of calorie counting after other approaches failed. To do this effectively, a menu needs to be constructed over time. Obviously this is front loaded but the app doesn’t suggest previous choices. Instead, you need to tag favourites manually. It gets worse. If you have been eating 40g of breakfast cereal and now want to eat 30g, if you’ve added 40g to your favourites, when you add 30g instead this appears as an additional choice that isn’t on your favourites. You need to favourite the new quantity and delete the previous one. This is a whole lot of messing around to achieve very little. It would be better if the app guided you to adding 5g or 10g and then your meal were to consist of a number of portions. However, we’re hardwired to think of a meal as one portion of X and one portion of Y etc. Similarly, I buy a hand of bananas and eat one per day. It makes no sense for the app to need me to specify the size of the banana as small, medium or large every single time. Just offer the previous size selected as the starting point. Just a couple of examples. Counting calories is a pain and this app falls well short of relieving that pain to encourage you to use it.
