Top 10 Music App in 62 countries!
iPad Pro & Apple Pencil recommended for best results.
- Quickly and accurately enter music notation with your finger or stylus.
- Write music on the train, in a plane, by a lake, or just sitting comfortably on your sofa!
- Simple, intuitive interface with little to distract you from your creativity - similar to writing with pen and paper, but with instant playback, editing and a score suitable for publishing at the end!
- Write music for solo instruments (including voice and piano), drums or ensembles from string quartets and choirs to full orchestral scores. Includes support for transposing instruments.
- PhotoScore Add-In (In-App Purchase): Take photos of printed sheet music with your device's camera, so you can play back and edit them with NotateMe! Recognizes 5-line staves and most markings including chords, flags, beams, rests, accidentals, articulation marks, clefs, key signatures, time signatures, tuplets, slurs, ties, hairpins and text including lyrics, dynamics and instrument names. Note: Requires 5MP camera & 1 GB RAM - so not for iPad 2, iPhone 4S, iPad Mini (1st gen) or earlier.
- Email PDF, MusicXML and MIDI files of your scores to friends or other musicians. Open in other apps and desktop notation packages. Print to paper.
- Import and edit MusicXML files (most music symbols supported).
- Automatically sync your scores to Dropbox so you can edit them on your phone whilst you are out, and then on your tablet when you get back.
- Great when learning or teaching music notation.
- NotateMe recognises a wide range of music symbols, including notes (with solid, open, and slanted noteheads), flags, beams (even cross-staff*), leger lines, multiple voices per staff, chords, rests, accidentals (natural, sharp, double sharp & flat), articulation marks, augmentation dots, ties, slurs, hairpins, clef changes, key signatures. Barlines, clefs, time signatures and tuplets are added automatically.
- Drag and drop (or set selected drawings to) further music symbols including cross noteheads, pedal markings, ornaments and appoggiatura.
- Add chord-symbols, dynamics, technique, tempo changes and lyrics to your score. Write comments or ideas in 'red pen'.
- If NotateMe doesn’t recognize your style immediately, keep at it, as it will adjust. Leave clear space between symbols and make markings clearer with further strokes if any transcription errors occur. If you experience problems, tap 'Help Improve NotateMe' from the Export menu and we will analyze your handwriting to help us improve NotateMe further.
* Cross-staff beaming requires an iPad

Has great potential but too expensive.

This app is really a great concept and it’s fun to muck around with it but there are too many limitations at this stage. Too many things either don’t work or are too hard to get working therefore it becomes useless for those trying to compose. It is very expensive considering these limitations. I’m glad I have it but feel ripped off.

After shelling out more than a hundred dollars for this app to convert our church songs to score, PhotoScore (full version in-app) did not work on my iPad Pro. While the lite free version worked wonderfully, converting the partial top parts of scanned sheets, PhotoScore (full) shows a blank list of photos (though flashed the list in milliseconds). Please fix bug or refund my Apple apps purchase.

Time for an update

This version is a year old now. Still clumsy. I wish there was a pairing option to a stylus like the Adonit pixel so that you could rest your hand on the tablet. For the money, I would expect the updates to be much more frequent. I'll be using my old pen and paper in the meantime.

A very expensive app...and very frustrating, I regret buying it, having first tried the free version, I did expect a lot more for the money AUD$68.00.....what a waste. Much better notation apps for a third of the price. So disappointing.

AMAZING

I am a piano teacher and often needs to rearrange music score or simplified some pop music for students or for duets. This app is very helpful particularly when I can just take a photo and edit /transpose the notes. It saves so much time notating each individual note. It works well with iPad pro and the stylus.

Amazing App!

Okay, so this is a relatively new app and of course there is always room for improvement but it is amazing in what it can already do. After trying out the lite version I immediately bought the full version as well as the photoscore IAP. A bit pricy for an iOS app, sure, but look at the desktop alternatives. All expensive and none of them work well, and the amount of trouble one has to go through to get the job done. You have to first scan the score in in the right format and resolution(a bit difficult if the music is part of a book), have it converted(with questionable accuracy), then transferred to your iOS device. With this app you can have the sheet converted to MIDI in less than a minute! I have to explore the manual entry method a bit more but what I have tried I am loving it. Been trying out a few of the notation apps and all are painful to use. The iOS platform is just perfect for Photoscore. Now when my kids have a new piano piece to learn I can immediately have the music sheet captured and play back to them within a couple of minutes. My daughter needed to pick a song out of a few to learn for her Esttedford performance and I could let her listen to each piece before she decided which one to learn. Great for practising and getting a feel for the song before starting. I can also scan any of my hundreds of music sheet in, have them converted to MIDI and use them in any of my composing apps and DAW. Extensive exporting options are available, and GM MIDI compatible too. :) Like all desktop alternatives, accuracy of the MIDI conversion is not 100% but is still very good, so one does have to check if accuracy is important. Tricky notations like grace note...etc tend to trip it a bit but overall ok. Sometimes during playback it may get a bit lost with lots of repeats and score/music may get out of sync. Hence improvement is needed in these areas however I am still loving it. Before notate me I used to dread having to enter each note one at a time and now it is actually fun! A few features I would like to see added: -ability to import photos and PDF -more customisable layout for the score -coreMIDI -AudioBus -Inter-App-Audio -MIDIBus -Comprehensive file manger with folders and cut/copy/paste support -ability to use user SF2 Soundfonts -Practising tools: would be great if the app can become more interactive when using an external MIDI keyboard like waiting for the player to play the correct before playing continue. What had also helped

Great app for scoring on the go. Sometimes has trouble recognising notes, so you need move the notes around a bit. Otherwise very happy!

Great fun.

Its an innovative app that works well and has great features. The tracking is about 95% of perfect. There are still some issues (at least with my handwriting). Ideally the app would work in the background while we write music and we are not aware of anything but the creative process. Its not quite there yet but its not far off. Maybe a few more updates or versions.

Exciting but not ready for practical use yet.

I enjoyed messing about with this exciting new technology but it's definitely not worth the money being charged for it. My main issue is that it has a lot of trouble recognising sharps, flats and naturals which as a composition tool makes it useless to begin with. You will probably need to remove your screen protector to use a stylus and even then it didn't work well for me and has wasted a screen protector! If you have fat fingers, forget trying to write accurately. It needs a button for deleting characters. The vertical flick is not practical if you have trouble selecting what you want to erase and often you end up drawing a dot or something else in the process. I think that this technology is wonderful and will eventually get to a point where it is very accurate and easy to use. However, this is some way off I suspect. I wouldn't rush to buy this application yet as it's not a practical way to compose music and is extremely time consuming at this point. I am looking forward to watching the next versions of this app arrive and improve, although I won't bother upgrading for a year or so yet until I know that it's ready for practical use.

Not bad

I've been waiting for an app like this for a while, and this one is almost what I want, a few annoying things like sometimes recognizing flats as minims and sharps as naturals, unable to place a repeat bar in the first bar, little things. It's not a professional tool yet, but useful just the same. I've given this app 4 stars to hopefully encourage people to use it, and therefore encourage development, these are the sort of apps the iPad was made for, and while not perfect, it's not bad.
