Our Daily Bread

I’ve been a faithful reader of Our Daily Bread for a long time, 50 years, but the recent format changes to the app have diminished the experience for me. Now, they start by reading a Bible text, then move into the story, and end with things to think about. While I understand the intention behind this structure, it feels disjointed. What made Our Daily Bread special was how it spoke to your heart in a unique and meaningful way—connecting the story to the message in a way that stayed with you. That sense of connection seems lost. Additionally, the focus on introducing the contributors feels unnecessary and, frankly, like a vanity exercise. In the app, it’s all about highlighting who wrote the devotional or narrated it: “This person is the president of the company,” or “This person narrated today’s story.” These details don’t add value to the devotional and feel self-serving. When I read the paper version, I never cared who the author was—I cared about the message. Now, the emphasis on the contributors feels out of place and detracts from the spiritual impact. Overall, the new format feels less engaging and personal. I miss the old approach that drew you in with a relatable story and left you thinking deeply about the message. I hope the team reconsiders this change and brings back the heart and simplicity that made Our Daily Bread such a powerful devotional tool.

Impossible to play

Since the latest update I cannot open the app on my iPad mini 2. It tries to load and crashes.

When listening to the audio to scripture the narrator is reading from a different bible. For instance lib but the narrator is reading from NLT please have your narrators read from the same bible as on your app. Thank you!

Yet another update however the problem reported to you several months ago has still not been resolved. As a blind user of this app I still cannot access the daily readings on my own. The audio button is still in accessible. Just a hint, how about shrinking the picture at the top of the page and maybe then I can access the listen button. or maybe you should just put in the next update something that might actually work for those of us with Low Vision?

Unlike many people perhaps, but I’ve always chosen to listen to the Daily Bread at night just before going to sleep. It used to be like a 2-step button push to access but now it’s crazy how many actions I have to navigate at 11 pm to access the next day’s audio reading!

After last update way to much white space beside reading. Font choices limited. Bible reading reference for day moved off of reading page, confusing.

This recent update has negatively impacted the look and feel of the app. The move away from Bible Gateway to an in-app Bible has taken away the ability to see footnotes and references. Also, when reading the Bible passage a stray (accidental ) click on the ‘Bible’ button at the bottom of the screen takes you to the start of the Bible, Gen 1:1 and then you have to return to the devotional and start at the beginning again.
