The digitalized production of today (also called Industry 4.0) is not as new as many people think, because all the used technologies exist already. They are only adjusted to the modern conditions. What is really new is the type of organization of the manufacturing process, in which everything is linked together. This, however, brings a completely new situation. Information is not anymore always insufficient, as in the past. On the contrary: there is too much. Problems arise mainly because people do not find anything useful in the mass of data.
That means: meaningful indicators become much more important. One of them is the OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness). Its specific field of application is the detection of the unplanned losses of an entire facility. For this, it measures the losses in three areas: the availability of the production line, the performance of the production line and the quality of the manufactured products. Afterwards is condenses this information with a simple formula to a percentage value.
