When you get a silver or gold coin with correct weight and size, how can you know it is not a fake coin made of other cheap materials? Traditional ping tests can distinguish true gold or silver coins from counterfeit ones in cheap metal. But you need good ears!
Precious coin tester helps you listen to the sound generated by the ping test and will tell you whether the coin is a cheap metal fake. So no more worry about the fake gold or silver coin!
How to ping the coin?
Hold the coin on the tip of one finger near the mic of your phone/tablet, and knock the coin briefly with another hard object. Hold still the coin while it rings. When the sound of coin has diminished, knock it again.

Which results are good?
Both 2 and 3 stars are good results:
- 2 star offers standard/traditional ping test result, it indicates that the sound of the coin matches that of a genuine one. It is a qualitative result.
- 3 star is our uniquely developed high precision result, it indicates metal content error is under 10% for silver and under 5% for gold.
Spot a 3-star false positive and you may win a $100 reward! Details: https://preciouscointester.com/en/3_star_quest/round2/3_star_quest.html

Disappointed
I bought to test U.S. 90% gold and silver coins. There are only 2 coins that be tested for free. A one silver dollar and a one ounce twenty dollar. No other denominations available without a subscription. Also, you can’t use the special parameters section without a description.
After paying $30 for the device, I expected more options.
Subscription plan likely limiting sales revenue
Econ 101: Price up = demand down
Subscriptions are generally reviled, so, perhaps you could increase your revenue by figuring a way to segment your prospective customer base.
Maybe a one-time fee for just the *custom* tester (i.e., no access to the coin library).
Or maybe:
One-time fee—say, $9.99—for access to the current database but some additional fee for the annual update (heck, and even a $1.99 annual “maintenance fee” for a “Basic” plan).
For example, I don’t buy rounds; I buy old silver. I’d pay 10 bucks for the current library, but I have no need for annual updates. Let those who need them have the option to buy them.
More money is made via a “Volume, volume, volume!” strategy than by exclusionary pricing. How many new “casual users” could you entice with a lower-priced “Basic” plan?
Locked behind a paywall subscription
The app used to be great, everything was free to test. Now you need to pay 3$ a month. Ridiculous
Server error coinstantly.
Paid for a subscription and server always down. A refund would be nice!
Better than nothing
Gave me a 3/3 rating for a glass jar while testing for ASEs. Just another data point, don’t bet the house on just this app.
Helpfull
Very helpfull if you have hearing loss or tone loss
Says everything is good.
Didn't fail any of my coins even when I pinged the wrong ones on purpose. Passed an ASE as a gold double eagle a couple times in a row 3/3.
Subscriptions subscriptions subscriptions
This subscription model is tired lame and needs to be put out of it’s misery. I’m not paying $36 a year for an app I might use 2 times a month. My dealer has a tester that I can use for free. If you want my money then either charge $.50 a month or 4.99 for a years worth of updates. Until the I’ll find another to check ALL of my coins for free.
What a joke! NOT very accurate!
This app is a joke for real. First of all, misleading to have access the manual feature so you are force to subscribe. After subscription, only then tells you that the manual is not 3/3 accurate. Also, the results are varies with the same coins. 2023 Britannia silver 1 oz is not even in the coin list. It so hard pick the region as it’s very sensitive when you’re rolling the region choices. Don’t waste your money to subscribe, its a useless tool.
Excellent App
Free version was more than enough for me. Allows you to select Buffalo Rounds. Was still able to test my Eagles with this too, as the size is all that matters. Tested bars and junk I have to see how legitimate the rounds tester is. Spot on every time. Can’t see how anyone could complain. Free version is good enough for me.
