Cute and helpful

This is a wonderful app highly recommended
I had been using duolingo to try and supplement my lack of Japanese practice and had been really stricken by how little they go into actually teaching you the language, and since I have some friends who want to learn Japanese at a basic level, I wished I had a better tool than “go to my college” to recommend them. Having heard of this app from a couple of more experienced learners I decided to give it a try, and I was surprised by how well made and digestible it was. From the mastery schedules to the lessons themselves it has been a very convenient way of getting in daily practice.
Quite good app for someone returning back to learning Japanese
This is the kind of homegrown goodness I miss about the pre-corporate Internet. Free passion projects made for the love of learning. I’ve periodically tried and been intimidated by Japanese for the past 20 years. Tried several other apps and didn’t like how disjointed and cash-grabby they felt. But after finding renshuu, I felt ready to try again, and I’m super happy I did! It’s been two days and I’ve already learned a few dozen hiragana well enough to score in the high 90s up to 100 in each quiz. Plus, I have already noticed that I can sightread simple words for the first time! My favorite feature so far has been community-shared mnemonic devices for memorizing characters. Such a neat idea and really makes you feel like earlier learners care about you. And there’s a cool Discord for even more encouragement and features. I’ve barely scratched the surface here; there are so many features that, in today’s hyper-capitalistic market, I am in disbelief that they’re all offered for free. You won’t find a more generous developer of any Japanese app. I recommend this renshuu for all levels of learner. It’s finally showed me how to get started on something I love, and how to enjoy the learning journey along the way!
I’ve tried pretty much every other app and website out there for practicing Japanese, and they all either fall short or just demand you form over your cash. Renshuu, however, is an amazing SRS resource, with an adorable mascot, active community and staff, makes learning Japanese enjoyable and accessible, and supporting the creators is highly warranted. Forget pimsleur, renshuu is the way to go.
I majored in Japanese but don’t get to use it much anymore, wanted to brush up but all the other apps I tried were way too elementary with no ability to “test into” a higher level. I love that I get to start working at my own level and skip things I already know from the start. The quizzes and study tools are simple and easy to work through, and there are lots of different activities to keep you studying in various fun ways. I’m a bit stingy with apps but will absolutely be paying for this one!
I have been using this app for over a year now and I feel that this is the best app for Japanese. On top of that joining the discord and having the short classes allowed me to put things together way better than just self study. Highly recommend.
I have a LOT of Japanese study apps, I’ve been studying on & off for a few years. I love that this app has study tracks for a lot of different textbooks so it’s easy to reinforce class lessons. And it’s so darn cute!! So many options, study paths, ways to customize. Definitely a must have!
The sheer amount of learning methods and resources packed into this app is insane, in a good way. Kana, kanji, grammar, user-made mnemonics, sentence structure, it has everything! There’s a bit of a learning curve with navigating it, but it’s amazing and so, so much is offered in the free version. If you want to learn Japanese but don’t know where to start, download this app. There are lessons, games, forums, challenges, etc. from beginner to advanced and there’s a great community on there to learn with! It’s such a friendly app and I love the more creative aspects to it like the haiku and writing prompts, decorating your own garden, making a hanko, I could go on and on. I know I sound like an ad, but it really is just that great. If you’re still deciding, go download it already!
